CPAC - Young Republicans Going Libertarian

Post by MSimon »

I just got an e-mail report from my retired detective friend who lobbies Congress on an issue I am obsessive about (it will go unmentioned). He was at CPAC last week and he tells me that the 35 and under crowd at CPAC is libertarian. He also told me that he got a favorable nod from a couple of Senators on his issue. Senators not currently noted for making it their issue.

From my strictly 3rd hand look at the happenings I characterize it as the Nixon wing of the party (Progressive) vs the Reagan wing (Libertarian).

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism." - Ronald Reagan

How long will it be before the public face of the party changes? On some issues (gay marriage) the change has already started. Much to the chagrin of the Nixonian wing. On other issues it will be a while. The nation will come around sooner 2016 - 2020 than the party will 2030. A huge electoral loss might speed that up.

As I have pointed out the Nixonian wing is losing 3.5 million every two years to death. So the change might be relatively complete in as little as 8 years. And there is a chance that it will be well underway in 4 years. Which is why I think Rand Paul is running. He sees a different party in 2016. And certainly by 2020.

All in all I like it.

They might have to start their own party. The people currently in control i.e. the religious right have some strange ideas that go counter to most young people's ideas and desires.

Wonder is they would make it a felony to have sex outside of marriage? It would sure cut down on legal gun owners.

Funny. Back in the 60s - before things got wild. The average Jewish male had 12 partners outside of marriage. Why? They got married and started families later in life.

We could easily reduce the amount of sex outside of marriage by lowering the marriage age to 14. Or given today's earlier physical maturation maybe 10.
