Republicans Promote Hemp - Democrat Voters Explode
Yep. Democrat voters exploded - in a good way. Very annoyed at their Party. As I have been saying for a long time. If Republicans took the lead Federally on this issue they could scoop up a LOT of D voters. Maybe win a national election. This of course assumes they want to win a national election.

BTW you are probably unaware of this being largely ignorant on the subject but hemp is classified as a cannabis that has less than 1% THC. Psychoactive strains generally have 3% to 20% (in the leaves/flowers).
Hemp As An Agricultural Commodity - Congressional Research ServiceHemp (from Old English hænep) is a commonly used term for varieties of the Cannabis plant and its products, which include fiber, oil, and seed. In many countries regulatory limits for concentrations of psychoactive drug compounds (THC) in hemp encourages the use of strains of the plant which are bred for low tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content or otherwise have the THC removed.[1] Hemp is refined into products like hemp seed foods, hemp oil, wax, resin, rope, cloth, pulp, and fuel.
History
Hemp is one of the earliest domesticated plants known.[2] It has been cultivated by many civilizations for over 12,000 years.[3][4]

Hemp For Victory - US Department of Agriculture with support from the US Navy - an educational video 1942 It starts out with the history of hemp going back to Ancient Greece. Discusses Naval uses. The USS Constitution (Old Ironsides) is/was rigged with hemp. Discusses the origin of the word "canvas". Talks about the importance of the crop to Kentucky. Which may explain the support of Senators McConnell and Paul of KY.China is the largest supplier of hemp fabric to the United States, followed by Hungary, Poland, and Romania. Data are not available on how much hemp clothing and household furnishings are imported into the United States.

And a little literature for your amusement.
Excerpting Terry Southern’s “Red Dirt Marijuana and Other Tales” published in 1967.
From the link before the short story:
Terry Southern is the quintessential dark satirical humor voice of 60s counterculture, and his resume is easily one of the most impressive of the 20th Century. Having his name attached to works like Easy Rider and Dr. Strangelove, as well as a stint at Saturday Night Live is enough to make anybody want to worship the guy, but his written works also include several books that are deserving of your attention.
The folks at Open Road Media are aware of that, and have made it a point to help bring Southern’s voice into the 21st Century, by making his work available as ebooks, including Blue Movie, Flash and Filigree, Candy, The Magic Christian, and Texas Summer.
Below is an excerpt from the late writer’s book Red-Dirt Marijuana and Other Tastes. The 1967 novel was released last week as part of Open Road’s series.

BTW it discusses a 12 yo boy getting sick from smoking strong pot. The psychology of the forbidden is implicit in the story.

Rick Simpson video about using hemp oil to cure cancerRick Green
THC is very important for cancer because it fits into the cannabinoid receptors thus producing ceramide to kill off the cancer cells. THC acid cannot do that because it doesn't fit. Even though the argument is that the raw form allows you to take much more, honestly, after you ingest this oil for a month on average you can work your way up to a gram of oil per day with little effects because of your high tolerance. Rick Simpson has cured over 5000 people with this oil and has not seen one condition it didn't work on, so i am 100% an advocate for this oil. Plus, it is very hard to have a big grow operation of plants used for juicing. It is much more efficient to use this oil, especially with the way the laws are today. Rick Simpson on using hemp for radiation damage:
After the horrible earthquake in Japan, that has caused all this damage to many of the nuclear reactors that are operating in that country, radiation is now spreading worldwide. With high levels of radiation being released into the atmosphere on a continuous basis, it will have a devastating effect on the lives of most living creatures. But once again if used properly high quality hemp oil can provide a solution that will be of great help to mankind in alleviating this situation. For years I have been telling the public, that every man woman and child on this earth, should be taking small doses of this oil everyday to maintain good health. With all the radiation that is now entering our atmosphere, it is basically urgent, that we now all start ingesting this oil as soon as possible to undo the damage this radiation will cause. Through my experience with the use of this oil, I have found that there is nothing more effective or more harmless that can reduce the damage caused by radiation. I have seen patients that were suffering from cancer who were badly damaged by the effects of radiation treatments, that were able to completely eliminate the damage in a short time. Some who have come to me that had radiation treatments, were burned so badly by its effects that their shin looked like red leather. After ingesting the oil treatment their skin went back to its normal healthy state and the radiation burns disappeared completely. If the oil can do this for someone that was badly damaged by such so called medical treatments, would its use not be effective to combat the effects of the radiation, now emanating from Japan.
======
Wouldn't it be ironic if the Military got into this to deal with radiation damage. The next atomic war (coming soon to a neighborhood near you) will break the dam if nothing else does.

Abjectly false. It's just not happening.
You've got more of an effect living at altitude.
And not much if any from living at altitude.
It is better to use examples which are real.

That may have been true at the time it was written. The media reports did not match the radiation reports I was watching. I haven't checked back in a while. But the first three to four months were way more exciting than I would have liked to live through.TDPerk wrote:" With high levels of radiation being released into the atmosphere on a continuous basis,"

I'd have to check back on what I wrote at the time but IIRC two to four people working at the reactor site died of radiation exposure at the time. Bloomberg is doing a whitewash. They are also confusing the local increase of radiation with the total of radioactives in the ocean. Think of it this way. You liven in a house and you start a bonfire in the back yard for entertainment. The average temperature of the property increases by 5 deg F. But you sure wouldn't want to get too close to that fire.

Well this is a howler:
Here is a Doctor who studies the matter and is pro cannabis but says we don't have proof of a cure. he explains why:
And if it is a Cancer cure the DEA is gone.
What else do we know? Medical cannabis is the gateway to legalization. This terrifies people whose jobs depend on continuing Prohibition. So they fight it.
Medical Marijuana prohibition is a crime against humanity and a violation of the religious precept - heal the sick.
But getting back to politics. The Republicans are in desperate shape. Despite roughly 75% of Americans favoring med pot, most of the 25% opposing it resides on the right. And a lot of them will stay home if the Rs come out in favor of any kind of legalization. We have more than a few of that 25% who comment on this board. What does that mean for now? It means that the Rs are in a no win position. They can't depend on their base if they favor med pot. And they are unable to win an election if that becomes a central issue if they oppose it.
But all this is beyond the real point. Cannabis oil with the right cannabinoids heals radiation burns and cures cancer. In humans. Too bad the only actual studies done so far are on mice. If, in response to Fukushima, Japan switches to more fossil fuels, the resulting carbon dioxide emissions, greenhouse gases and global warming could affect all of us.
Here is a Doctor who studies the matter and is pro cannabis but says we don't have proof of a cure. he explains why:
So the work is left to guys like Rick Simpson and people desperate enough to risk the law. And that is not in any way a controlled study even if it does help. But I think that explains why Paul and McConnell are dipping their toes in the water. Keeping the identification between "Prohibition Party" and Republicans will be an electoral killer if it turns out cannabis can cure cancer. And I'd say the odds are much better than 50-50 that it does. In any case 70% to 80% of Americans favor medical marijuana. We’ve heard there might be institutional barriers to doing so.
Unfortunately, we live in this society where prohibition impacts our ability to answer questions . . . In California, [to conduct human trials with cannabis] I need to get eight different approvals from eight different bodies ranging from our clinical research center, to the medical advisory board, to the DEA; probably ONDCP [Office of National Drug Control Policy] is somehow involved . . . There aren’t that many people that are motivated into becoming involved in doing research on the plant.
Is Western medicine fundamentally incompatible with whole plant botanical therapies?
Dr. Abrams: Sure . . . People say to me, “Donald, this plant has 400 different chemical compounds in it. We’re in the age of nanotechnology and gene therapy. What are you doing?”
Well, I did a two-year fellowship in integrative medicine with [holistic health and alternative medicine expert] Andrew Weil’s program and University of Arizona, and I became very much a believer in plants as medicine. A great fraction of my chemotherapy drugs are derived from plants. Plants are potent.
What needs to happen nationally? Rescheduling? De-scheduling?
I think that more states need to follow the lead of Colorado and Washington. I mean, we incarcerate too many people. It’s racism, it’s all that all over again. But I’m just a single oncologist, so I try to stay out of politics.
Are general practitioners experts on cannabinoid therapies?
Absolutely not . . . I think that’s really sad.

In general though what does encourage me is how quickly the knowledge of the endocannabinoid system is spreading. Two years ago mentions in comments was rare. Even at doper sites. Now at doper sites the subject is pervasive and it is becoming a topic of conversation in the general public. Funny thing is that the dopers know more about the science than the prohibitionists do. I was under the impression that that stuff was supposed to make you stupid. It is not what I have seen. What seems to make people stupid is unreasoning hate. But that should come as no surprise. We have the example of Germany 1933 to 1945 for proof of that contention.

Hemp the industrial variety (it has almost no THC) is a very usefull product.
But as a medical use I am still on the "no" side. All the "doctors I have checked that have been referenced have a bad standing or have had their quotes taken out of context. Any thing that can cure everything ussually cures nothing. I will continue with my safe but boring position. FDA aproved good for me.

I once again find it funny that I make one little posting with a link, and that generates a multi post tirade lacking veracity and logic.
Illegal drug use ruins lives and kills. And uncontrolled, can become an epidemic that disrupts society. Controlled substances are controlled with good reason.
Unlike guns, where it takes a person to choose to use it as a tool to kill, illegal drugs, once introduced to a person have a significant probability to induce an internal and externally destructive spiral, which phyically disrupts the rational thinking process that produces value for self and others. This use physically encourages more use, and in turn accellerates the death spiral. Picking up a gun is not a self lubricating slippery slope. Using illegal drugs is.

My posts are not for your benefit. I post them to inform the lurkers.
And note - the tide has turned against you. Significantly in the case of medical cannabis. When it becomes a national issue the Right will go down in flames over it. I see a 1932 in your future.
The slippery slope is Prohibition. Notice the antics of Bloomberg lately? And BTW where is the Constitutional Amendment for the Federal Drug Ban my Constitutionalists friend?
We haven't given up using opiates and cocaine medicinally despite the fact of a significant number of recreational users. Your position is incoherent. People notice these things. At least those between 15 and 25. And they have been noticing for 40+ years. Prohibitions typically last for about 50 years. Your time is about up.
BTW please explain how the nation survived when all these medicines were over the counter until 1914 and 1937? Until outlawed by the Progressives.
I have noticed on the doper boards an explosion of references to endocannabinoids. You have no counter for that information. Do you have any idea how out of touch that makes you look?
"A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents die and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it." - Max Planck
I have no interest in doing the impossible - converting you to reason - I'm into presenting my evidence to the new generations who will decide the issue. The tide has swung in my favor. Your best option to maintain political viability for the rest of your program is to give up. However you insist on a fight. You will lose everything until the reality of economics catches up with your opposition just as the reality of body chemistry is catching up with you.
You are a military man. You should know that if you find yourself in a position you can't hold you retreat to a stronger position you can hold. This you find yourself unable to do. You know the end result.
And finally for your amusement:
Cannabinoids, like those found in marijuana, occur naturally in human breast milk
And it turns out, based on the findings of several major scientific studies, that human breast milk naturally contains many of the same cannabinoids found in marijuana, which are actually extremely vital for proper human development.
And:
If it were not for these cannabinoids in breast milk, newborn children would not know how to eat, nor would they necessarily have the desire to eat, which could result in severe malnourishment and even death. Believe it or not, the process is similar to how adult individuals who smoke pot get the "munchies," as newborn children who are breastfed naturally receive doses of cannabinoids that trigger hunger and promote growth and development.
====
I have a friend who is losing her parents because they have lost their appetite. She desperately wishes that cannabis was legal so she could enjoy a few more years with her parents. How do you think she feels about you and your prohibition program? Now multiply that by all the diseases and maladies where cannabis is helpful. And then do a count. You don't have the votes.
Do you see why I say:
Medical Marijuana prohibition is a crime against humanity and a violation of the religious precept - heal the sick.

Re: Republicans Promote Hemp - Democrat Voters Explode
Also from the "breast milk" link:
There are two types of cannabinoid receptors in the body -- the CB1 variety which exists in the brain, and the CB2 variety which exists in the immune system and throughout the rest of the body. Each one of these receptors responds to cannabinoids, whether it be from human breast milk in children, or from juiced marijuana, for instance, in adults.
This essentially means that the human body was built for cannabinoids, as these nutritive substances play a critical role in protecting cells against disease, boosting immune function, protecting the brain and nervous system, and relieving pain and disease-causing inflammation, among other things. And because science is finally catching up in discovering how this amazing cannabinoid system works, the stigma associated with marijuana use is, thankfully, in the process of being eliminated.
In another study on the endocannabinoids published in the journal Pharmacological Reviews back in 2006, researchers from the Laboratory of Physiologic Studies at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism uncovered even more about the benefits of cannabinoids. These include their ability to promote proper energy metabolism and appetite regulation, treat metabolic disorders, treat multiple sclerosis, and prevent neurodegeneration, among many other conditions.
With literally thousands of published studies now showing their safety and usefulness, cannabinoids, and particularly marijuana from which it is largely derived, truly are a health-promoting "super" nutrient with virtually unlimited potential in health promotion and disease prevention.
====
What do you have that will counter that? Drugs kill? Well there is no evidence of that for marijuana. In 5,000 years. Can you get killed due to impairment when performing dangerous tasks? Sure. But there are lots of drugs - alcohol for instance - that do that. And unlike cannabis you can overdose from alcohol.
Here is what a DEA Judge said about cannabis:
"Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man." - DEA Judge Francis Young.
