Simply, there is no money left, the administration knows it and yet they keep acting as if funds were essentially unlimited even though the consequences of their action flirt with global catastrophe:

Ohhh no the sky is falling, the SKY IS FALLING!!!!

Quick gotta put on my tin foil hat.

Ok now that that's over with. The PoTUS does NOT set a budget, he has zero control over monetary policy / budget of the USA. Congress does those things. The PoTUS can make recommendations and "plans" but congress has absolutely no obligation to even look at them, much less debate their worthiness.

So the fight is between Congress and Congress, namely Democrats and Republicans. Both want expansion of their own power bases while contracting and limiting the others power base. That is why no matter who's in charge the deficit keeps growing.

No matter what happens, the debt ceiling will keep being raised. Ohh there will be lots of drama around it, especially as the Republicans lose this oncoming election. The GOP will be faced with the choice of changing their strategy or doubling down on the denying Democrats any victories strategy. If they do the former then there is a chance things will get done and we can get on with ourselves, if they chose to pursue the alter I expect a serious reckoning within their own power structure.

If you had actually bothered to read the link I posted you would kmow that it was an excerpt fron the new Woodward book and that the person crying "doom" this time was turbo tax Timmy Geithner. But it's obvious that you care more about scoring points than addressing real problems, just like your hero Obama.

Umm did read the post, hence the dripping sarcasm at first. You decided to make it a political attack on Obama.

I simply pointed out that Obama has zero control over the budget, he can recommend and come up with "plans" all day, but ultimately it's Congress and their various supporters that will create and pass the budget.

Conservatives really like to blame Obama for things that are Congress's fault, goes in line with the current GoP strategy to fulfill their #1 priority.

In all honestly the PoTUS is a glorified figure head outside of war time. Nearly all the power of government rests with congress and the supreme court, the President exists only as a check against congress's power and as a central leader for the military. He can't even hire his own advisers without congressional approval first. Hell he has a greater effect on foreign policy then on domestic.
