Fusor Construction Query - Regulation

Post by djolds1 »

What if any are the regulatory hurdles in the US for building a "basement" low-output experimental fusion reactor? I.e. essentially a fusor - deuterium fuel cycle, etc.

None that I know of. There are several people that build them, see: http://www.fusor.net/ . In the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA - Georgia and South Carolina along the Savannah river), it's fairly easy to obtain a small dewer of deuterium; it's not a controlled substance. I bought mine from a gas supply company in Aiken SC. A few years back, I built a fusor. It's not too difficult.

These days, I have a new hobby; see http://twitpic.com/photos/JohnFul ). No vaccum or high voltage involved. My wife actually supports this hobby (she keeps the end product). I'm working on a 8mm Golden Beryl in a square cut with 77 facets now: http://www.usfacetersguild.org/gem_desi ... /vfw21.gif

I finished up the crown (top of the stone), transferred the dop, and called it quits for tonight. I'll finish up the pavilion (bottom of the stone) early tomorrow morning before it gets too hot. If you want to see some of the things I made, check my twitpic profile in the link above.
