So you know that not all Arabs get the spoils of oil wealth, right? In fact it is pretty much limited to those in power. In some cases they toss bones to 'the people'. But it is scraps compared to what they keep for themselves.

Have you talked to actual people there? Like, in more than one place even? Or are you counting a coffee house encounter up the street from your place in Austria?

I have a number of very much Arab friends, I have also been 'there' and spent some time, in a number of countries. Once when asked by a group of my Arab friends over lunch what I thought was the most wrong thing with Arab culture. I asked them why they were asking me. The answer, unanimously, from a group representing residents of Kuwait, Jordan, Yemen, Oman, Saud, Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco was, "because we know you will tell us the truth of what you think." My answer was simple, "hypocracy". They thought for a minute, and then almost all at once starting talking about how that was so true a problem for them. One of my Israeli friends, who was also a member of this group, also fully agreed.

Take it how you want.
The development of atomic power, though it could confer unimaginable blessings on mankind, is something that is dreaded by the owners of coal mines and oil wells. (Hazlitt)
