This is your war on drugs. I guess it is the prototype for the coming death panels.Charles Passantino stared at his doctor in disbelief.
A 64-year-old patient with a crippling liver disease, Passantino had received treatment for eight years for chronic pain. He took small doses of oxycodone, a generic painkiller, to free his muscles from stiffness and swelling.
With the pills, he got by. Without them, just walking from bedroom to living room proved unbearable.
Now, with little explanation and no warning, he was being dumped.
In March, Passantino’s doctor told him that his Pierce County clinic, part of the Community Health Care network, was no longer treating chronic-pain patients. The doctor wrote one last oxycodone prescription — 25 pills, 5 milligrams each, good for maybe a week — and suggested that Passantino cut the tablets into pieces, to make them last longer.
Good luck finding another doctor, the physician said.

I saw my doctor a month ago. He has signs posted all over his office saying that he will not treat anyone for chronic pain. As a personal friend for decades, I asked him why he posted all the signs. He told me it was all those D@mned drug addicts constantly trying to get high off of prescription drugs. They come into his office with all sorts of made up stories trying to get him to write them a prescription for some narcotic or other so they can get high.
I told him I knew of one woman (now deceased, Drugs and Sexual diseases) that told me she would get her teeth pulled out so that she could get some prescription pain pills.
Yes, we should indulge these people in all their self destructive behaviors. Instead of one Michael Jackson, we could have MILLIONS of them, but without the talent.
For the poor sap that actually IS in chronic pain, I am sorry that the vast majority of users for pleasure have screwed up legitimate access for you.

Any doctor who reuses to attend to the need of someone in pain is not keeping his Hippocratic oath.

You aren't understanding the point. When you have so many pill heads demanding drugs, it becomes impossible to tell who is fake and who is real.
He is a primary treatment physician. Anyone he thinks might have a real chronic pain issue, he refers to a specialist.

Is not up to a doctor to take such a decisions. If someone in front of him is telling him that he is suffering, than his Hippocratic oath requires him to verify his conditions and treat him at the best of the medical knowledge.Diogenes wrote:You aren't understanding the point. By publicly stating that he refuses to treat such cases he is stopping in being a doctor and becoming a politician.

This is the first thing you've ever said that I consider nonsensical. Are you kidding me?

You are no Christian. But you already said that.
I am smiling right now because I am shocked at how naive the two of you are. Neither of you must have any experience dealing with drug addicts.
Simon, you've got your numbers backwards. For every REAL complaint, you have a thousand addicts trying to score.

Ah yes. Better that ordinary people suffer incredible pain than a few drug addicts get high.Diogenes wrote:MSimon wrote:Better that thousands should suffer than a few pleasure addict get their pleasure.

And BTW I have far more experience with addicts than you imagine.
The rule in America used to be that it was better to let many guilty go free than one innocent suffer. We are turning that on its head.
It will not end well. When you have made enough people enemies of the state there will be war in the streets. Delicious thought eh? Because pain sufferers and their relatives will become enemies of the state. You are trying to fix a problem in a way that causes more problems.
The road to HELL.....
When my brother got killed in a drive by 38 years ago I became an enemy of the State. I have been raising my forces. I hope to solve this at the ballot box. But if that doesn't work....

I find that incredibly hard to believe, at least by my experience. Crack heads will sell out their own mother for a fix. I knew of this one guy who's mother was a prostitute, and he would walk the streets finding tricks for her. Your addicts seem to be from the land of rainbows and unicorns.

Yes, there will be war in the streets, but it won't be because of drugs. It will be because excessively indulgent people have borrowed and spent so much of other people's money that they are going to collapse the value of the dollar, and also because the Democrats have lied to people for so long about social security that they are going to get really angry when they discover that they have nothing at the end of their life.
Starvation and despair among people is guaranteed to cause riots and war in the streets.

Prohibition killed my brother.
The same as prohibition killed so many in the 20s.
If it was the alcohol my friend why aren't you on about reinstating alcohol prohibition?
A bit I read recently said that alcohol causes 70X as much trouble as drugs. If it is only 10X I don't get why you aren't fulminating for a return to alcohol prohibition.
Let me explain it to you in simple terms:
Prohibition = trouble + criminals.
Legalization = trouble.
I'd prefer to focus on the real problem instead of chasing criminals. As long as we keep financing the criminals we will not have the resources to focus on people in trouble.

Now is your prohibition worth financing those mopes?And then there is this bit of added criminality we get: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/14/world ... s&emc=tha2
BEIRUT, Lebanon — Last February, the Obama administration accused one of Lebanon’s famously secretive banks of laundering money for an international cocaine ring with ties to the Shiite militant group Hezbollah.
Engineering is the art of making what you want from what you can get at a profit.
At the same time, the investigation that led the United States to the bank, the Lebanese Canadian Bank, provides new insights into the murky sources of Hezbollah’s money. While law enforcement agencies around the world have long believed that Hezbollah is a passive beneficiary of contributions from loyalists abroad involved in drug trafficking and a grab bag of other criminal enterprises, intelligence from several countries points to the direct involvement of high-level Hezbollah officials in the South American cocaine trade.
