Neville Chamberlain Worry
OK. I say we repeal Obama care - which is driving up medical costs before we kill the only insurance policy authorized by the Constitution.

I say we stop shoveling money to insolvent banks. Let them fail. Clear the market.
But I tell you what Axil. Try to get big Defense cuts through the current House. Or elect a lot of Democrats in 2012 and let them do the cutting.

I just wanted to point out how ironic it is that Democratic Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts with the help of the tea party has manipulated the political situation in such a way as to gravely wound your beloved military.MSimon wrote:Barney Frank? One of the engineers of the housing meltdown? You present that joke as if his opinion was worth anything?
Budget cutting breeds strange bedfellows.
You see, when you let the hungry lion out of its cage, it can indiscriminately maul all and sundry in unfortunate and unpredictable directions.
TEA Party?
Uh. As far as I know the only bad thing they want is to limit the government to its Constitutional role. No need to increae taxes if that is done. And they are considerate about it. There are plans about for a gradual roll back (to zero) of all the programs not authorized by the Constitution.
They are a little slow about Drug Prohibition though.

The tea party headed by the libertarian membership in their number want to dismantle regulations of all types and the government agencies that enforce them. I don't think this is very smart.
Such regulations keep passenger aircraft from crashing, gas pipelines from exploding, nuclear plants from melting down, and oil rigs from polluting the oceans.
America did not have to control these types of things back in 1776. There wasn't much need for government back in colonial times except for collecting the whiskey tax and the “don't tread on me” boys fought that tax too. Or does the tea party want America to regress back to those simpler times. Can I refer to them as simpletons in this respect?

Of course it is not smart to dismantle regulations that send business to China. We wouldn't want the poor Chinese to suffer now would we?
Do you have any idea what the business environment is like with a government boot on its neck?
Have you ever tried to start a business in the US? Or pick a feather up off the ground?

Well of course we need complications of all sorts. A complicated regulatory environment keeps the little guys from threatening the profits of the big boys. Can't have that now can we?
You understand what you favor is fascism by regulation. Don't you?

Say just who is in the way of cutting anyway?
But of course it is the TEA Party Republicans who are obstructing change. I call your position "faith based engineering". Not gonna work in 2012. Unless the Democrats can create a major distraction. The first act of the Republican House was to pass repeal of Obamacare, reducing future taxes and spending by trillions. The Senate has failed to act on this at all.
The Republican House passed the budget proposed by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, which would cut federal spending by $6.2 trillion over the first 10 years alone, and permanently balances the budget soon after that, as scored by CBO. Government spending as a percent of GDP would ultimately be reduced by 40% from current levels.
The Democrat-controlled Senate has failed to pass any budget at all, as required by law, for the second consecutive year now. At least they had the good sense to vote down Obama's proposed runaway budget, 97-0. But the failure to pass any budget leaves the government subject to possible shutdown this fall.
The Democrat Senate has also fought tooth and nail against every spending cut.

The Empire in Decline
The United States will leave Iraq by the end of this year, and U.S. troops are scheduled to leave Afghanistan in a year by September 2012.
This retrenchment in military and diplomatic power will continue to shift away from the U.S. and toward China, India, and other emerging markets... and the oil will follow.
Hess Corp CEO John Hess recently said, "Without greater investment to keep production capacity rising in line with demand, oil prices will again move towards new records. An energy crisis is on its way, and is likely to be triggered by oil."
Recently, the United States demanded that Pakistan stop sending terrorists to attack U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan, or we would think about not paying the $4.5 billion in military funding we give them every year.
The Pakistan-based Haqqani network recently attacked the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan. This fighting force has links to the Pakistani intelligence agency.
Admiral Mike Mullen called the Haqqani group a “veritable arm” of Pakistan's spy service.
Of course, the United States has been bombing the Haqqani in Pakistan for five years using drones...
Mullen simply stated what everyone in the theater of war has known for years: Pakistan's military is supporting the Taliban and Al Qaeda. This comment from Mullen caused riots in the streets of Islamabad and a cosmic freak-out by Pakistani leadership.
But these macro political shifts matter — and what we have now is a regrouping of international alliances that could have a very real effect on the price of oil.

The sun never sets on the US empire.
What the US needs to do is get out of all those foreign bases. We can no longer afford them. Take the money that is saved, pay off the national debt, but take some of that money to finance and develop a home grown bio-fuel industry. The technology is there, it just needs development.
The US has dumped 8 trillion dollars into the US military since this century has begun and America has yet to receive one gallon of oil in return. If fact, China will be the major developer of Iraqi oil.
Its time to let China take over as world policemen. Let China pay the dear price that this supply of oil demands. Let us separate America from these never ending hell-holes and nation build locally for a change.

If Iraq or Afghanistan become a problem again (they will) neither India or China will do anything about it. The US will return.
An Empire in Decline? Don't bet on it. Don't bet on it at all. Unless you bet with me. I could use the money.
Come 2012 the adults will be back in charge. Depend on it.

Harry S. Truman said this a lot to get people to do what he wanted. There were also many others including the DOD. There always is a need for a boogeyman to scare people to go in the "proper" direction.MSimon wrote:You want Communists in charge of the World?
Well it is nice of you to make yourself perfectly clear.
OK. Chinese Communists killed 50 million. Russian Communists about 35 million. The German National Socialists were misunderstood. Bunch a nice fellers really.Axil wrote:Harry S. So my dislike of Communists is pure fantasy. I like your logic. Can I design working circuits by it?
BTW when are the Democrats in the Senate going to pass a budget?
