If these guys get convicted, the weatherman better get the rain forecasts absolutely right from now on.
Experts on trial in Italy
Come to think of it, the experts on global warming should be worried next. A court in one country could convict the pro global warming experts while the court in another country could convict the anti global warming experts. Scientists who fail to predict a meteor strike could go to jail. 'Though the heavens should fall let justice be done' could take on a whole new meaning.

To get a real grip of how ridiculous the trial is you should follow it locally.
We had prime time talk shows where scientists were trying to explain that "predicting" an earthquake is not something possible, only to be confronted by:
1) journalists with example of "mages" and "sensitives" that sensed earthquakes all over the world
2) magistrates stating that someone had to be guilty anyhow as it was illogical to give to the population the feeling that they was not investigating, so they choose to blame the experts who did not predict the disaster.
It was pathetic.
I guess we are reaching our lowest point since the period of the holy inquisition.

So, if they had told people to worry and leave the area, then the ensuing panic and chaos would have probably killed just as many people. Had then no earth quake happened, they would be charged again.
This is an absolutely terrible move against science! The Italian government should be ashamed of itself (for many reasons anyway, but that definitely is another one).

Of course, we have a law also in case they announced an earthquake and it didn't happen.
Really, I am so ashamed of my country......
The best thing to do in Italy lately is to be unemployed and ask for social benefits.Article 658 of the Italian Penal Code.
Anyone who, announcing disasters, accidents or non-existent dangers, raises alarm shall be punished with imprisonment of up to six months or a fine.
Really, I am so ashamed of my country......
We did. And the SANE members of our nation have been fighting tooth and nail ever since to stop the Democrats!ladajo wrote:Come on Giorgio, you should be proud of the fact that Italy has one of the highest post High School and College paycheck percentages in the world. I mean, it is simply brilliant that the government gives everyone without a job a government "job". Why didn't we think of that in the US?

I hear that Britain also does that quite well.

yes, on the other hand, the US is also getting on its lowest point (similar to the holy inquisition in Europe) because these very same "SANE members" you speak about are largely the same MORONS that do not believe in science, that disagree with evolution, etc, etc
I recall watching a tv program about some US teenager convicted of murdering her roommate in Italy last year. The prosecutor said it was a occult sex act gone wrong or such, apparently he's convicted a lot o people on witchcraft related charges. But I digress, the green crowd are saying we have to spend trillions to fight climate change. Shouldn't they be more under scrutiny.
