Straining works on more than just silicon. The core point is not the extra electron mobility (ie conductance) in strained silicon (although that is important), it is the ability to alalyze what has been done (as opposed to cutting and trying). Thus you will quickly see inorganic 'films' of strained conductors. Altair has done some work manipulating inorganics already."
