I have proof positive that drugs make people stupid:

This seems to relate back to my earlier hypothesis of "acadegenic PTSD" in that the more generally intellegent a kid is, the more they tend to get picked on in school. Statistical correlation between intellegence and drugs, but the vector is acadegenic PTSD. Hmm. Were I in college, I'd do a thesis on it.Via a Quote in P&C, MSimon wrote:There is a clear association between childhood general intelligence and adult drug consumption.
Obviously more work needs to be done but we have indications.KitemanSA wrote:Oh, by the way, your sarcastic lead-in sentance might actually be true in that the study (at least what I read) said they started OUT smarter, it didn't say they STAYED smarter! Or did I just miss it?
High tech companies that don't drug test do better. Link in the article.

When looking at the child PTSD stuff and drug trending, I also thought along Kite's observation.MSimon wrote:Obviously more work needs to be done but we have indications.KitemanSA wrote:Oh, by the way, your sarcastic lead-in sentance might actually be true in that the study (at least what I read) said they started OUT smarter, it didn't say they STAYED smarter! What is the basis of the trending? Is it beating the child? or is it that beating is more likely to occur in a drug accessible environment?
I have seen many studies speaking to smoking parents trends smoking kids, and drinking parents trend to drinking kids, and drug using parents trend to drug using kids.
I guess it is similar to using statistics, introduction of statistics into an argument trends to more statistics in follow on arguments...
It is probably inheritance. Or at least the NIDA thinks so. They have found the genetic markers.I have seen many studies speaking to smoking parents trends smoking kids, and drinking parents trend to drinking kids, and drug using parents trend to drug using kids.
NIDA - drug use and genetics

I have never in my 45 years of research on the subject found any such connection. Except for alcohol. What is the basis of the trending? Is it beating the child? or is it that beating is more likely to occur in a drug accessible environment?
If you have something besides imagination I'd like to see it.
My Dad beat me for 8 hours straight (only stopping when his hand hurt) when I was 5. Fortunately I never became an alcoholic. Although I drank VERY heavily in High School. BTW I never gave in to the old man. I was always one tough SOB. ;-) About a decade before my dad died we reconciled. Thank the Maker.
