Funny exchange at work

"So we need the MRP report for... wait... what was that program? boron_ionization.p? What's that for?"

"Well, uh, it calculates boron ionization energies."

"Why are you ionizing boron?"

"Ummm... it's a long story."

I probably shouldn't be doing this.
n*kBolt*Te = B**2/(2*mu0) and B^.25 loss scaling? Or not so much? Hopefully we'll know soon...

Tell 'em it is all part of your commitment to the innovative and technology-driven future of your company, and this is merely engaging in outward-looking professional activity that engineers in all progressive companies do to keep themselves sharp and up to date with new tech. They pay you to be an engineer, not a machine, and this is the best way you think you can fulfil that professional role and maximise your long-term contribution to your company's success.

Or you could tell them you're working on reducing the overhead at your workplace by negotiating with Boraxo for a new, cheaper, hand cleanser. .

Tell them you're doing a very preliminary investigation, looking into the feasibility of a boron-based quantum computer which might work well enough to replace all of their highly-paid employees.
