Trekkers/Fans?

Certainly an enthusiastic and money-willing funding base. Especially
if there's reasonable hope of success.

Their involvement might create later bad impressions tho.

Target fen locations? Fan websites, conventions, etc? Quick
overview of the polywell/IEC concept, odds of success, and
a direct paypal donate link such as wikipedia uses for its
funding drives?

Might be a good audience. Dr.Bussard is more accepted among them, as the Impulse drive uses a Bussard collector. :D

But really, they would be interested.

Actually I think it's a great idea. Several years ago when Enterprise was canceled a fan group raised millions of dollars just to try and keep the show on the air. If you can form the right message for that group I think there would be money to be had.

I wouldn't go far as they alone funding the thing. But I'm willing to bet that we can get support from them.

Yeah that is what I had figured as well. I wasn't trying to imply they would fund the whole thing, but if they were able to raise that much money for a TV show I would think we could get some substantial donations from them.

I'm actually working on a script for a movie that involves fusion, its opportunities, and impact. A successful film based on real science could work wonders.

I'm also writing a novel that is set in the future, and space is re-discovered with the help of fusion-based engines.

Too bad that this isn't the tread to discuss that!

Might be enough for the 5 million needed for the WB-7x steady-state
demonstrator. Get that and the funding for the all-up 100MW POC unit
is much easier. Name that "Enterprise" and paste a Starfleet logo on
the side per deal w/the initial fan-funders.

why have you not applied to the government research councils and research foundations for this paltry 5 million?

just make a formal presentation....
