Did you actually read the link I posted about Portugal earlier? You can also google some more info on that. This LIBERTARIAN study actually says that it does work!

My favorite strip club was one run by a former evangelical minister. Nice place. He treated the girls well and patrons were not fleeced.

Needless to say eventually the locals closed it as a moral embarrassment. Of course other joints closer to the town center were immune. He probably was too honest to bribe the politicians.

Over 50 strip clubs in a city of 2-2.5 million people.
We have more than that in a city of 230.000
That is what I meant... Geez, I am wishing back the times when we had only 50 of those in this town...

Good that he has something to fall back on.

His sermons must have been a treat!

Jesus treated a whore in a temple once.
So she paid him for his "services"?
He must have been really good then ;)

I don’t want to agree with him, because if he’s right, we’ve basically got to go to the mountains with a gun and some soup cans, because it’s all over.

I think a better theory fits the facts:

Re: Kondratieff Wave theory,

The last 3 major crunches in western markets, including the current one, were all induced by government malpractice. So if there's something to that theory, it relates to how long it takes to forget the lessons of the last crunch.

The alternative explanation is that on the upward part of the wave government extractions are bearable. On the downward swing they are untenable.

Maybe unbearable is more like it.

Since this is the forum where we previously discussed the influence of Religion on civilization, I thought people might be interested in seeing this James Burke Video from his series "Connections." It tends to bolster my argument that the Christian religion has been a positive influence on the advancement of Western civilization.

edit: Also, a bit of commentary on why Rome fell, unbeknownst at the time to James Burke, also applicable to us. U.S.
