He deserves to get fired.

Any Military officer who voted for Obama is a fool. The country doesn't need him. There is no worthwhile problem that can be solved by adding another idiot.

Just shy of 70% of folks think Obama goofed it by getting rid of McChrystal in the running FOXNEWS online poll. There are about 128,000 votes.
Interesting, Obama can't seem to get anything right...this one looked easy, but public opinion seems to disagree. :D

I personally think that McChrystal should have stayed in chair. I like the guy.

I like the guy too but anyone guilty of that level of insubordination needs to be fired. He'll be lucky to keep his pension and he knew what would happen when he gave the interview.

Or did we want to presume he is world-class stupid?!

He did it because he knows OBama doesn't want much to win the war and without the Commander in Chief invested, we certainly cannot win.

A lot of people are saying he did it on purpose. They say he did it because bringing attention to the fiasco that is Obama's Afghanistan Policy (and every other policy) is what is needed to save lives and save the mission.

Apart from that, here's some information on How McCrystal managed to be caught in this little snare. Basically, he trusted the Media, and they screwed him. Just like they screwed the country with their biased reporting and lack thereof.

Yep.

I'd characterize it a little different though. He took one for the troops.

i.e. he took his job seriously.

Yep.

If I was a biographer, I'd be all over the McCrystal story. Sounds like a hero to me.

I keep thinking of Patton, another bull in a china shop with a habit of getting in trouble by speaking his mind publicly. During a war, just make sure you put the bull in the enemy's china shop.

My approach would have been a good public spanking, but not let him off so easily. What good is punishing a good man if you don't benefit from what he learns in the process? Make him apologize, then make him finish the job.

If you read the biographies of most of the great generals, you'll find they are rulebreakers, and you wonder how they survived in their careers long enough to become generals. But the rulebreakers are not afraid to do what it takes to succeed. Once they think they know what it will take to do the job, get out of their way because they're gonna do it. Stormin' Norman was pretty much the same way.

Right or wrong, I also heard comments according to which he did so because he wanted to be sent away from this mess and avoid bearing any responsibility on the disaster to come.

That is another plausible scenario. We've recently heard announcements that Peter Orszage (Potemkin Budget tsar) is leaving, Rahm Emanuel (Chief Thumb and Neck Breaker) is leaving, and Linda Douglas (Chief Propaganda Officer) is also leaving.

With all of those rats jumping ship, I shouldn't be surprised to find that McChrystal is reading the tea leaves as well.

Durn chinese curse ... this isn't the type of "interesting times" I wanted to be living in.

Oh well, hopefully I'll also get to see working Polywell's and civilian US space endeavors.

Was that a bit of humor or do I have too much of an imagination?
