Except of course for the fact that the article did not mention the word "Polywell" and quoted ITER people as if they were the One True(tm) fusion experts... Only people already in the know would realize the article is describing a homebrew Farnsworth-Hirsch IEC fusor, and only people already in the know would recognize the allusion to Bussard means they intend to build a Polywell after fundraising... The article was a nice enough human interest story, but skipped the part where they so much as name, much less describe, the tech involved.bennmann wrote:*thumbs up*
Just the kind of Press Polywell needs.
I thought it odd (but not unexpected) how they focused on the negative perceptions of a "nuclear reactor in NYC" at the beginning and end of the article (what people will remember most) with only what appeared to me to be a token "but its safe and legal" mention-in-passing.
They did mention he was working on a device designed by "... the late Robert Bussard ..." Shouldn't they have included "Dr" in that (or am I being too critical on that one)?

Now THAT is an interesting read! Good on you Famulus.

I have inside info that at least one of the orgs you mention is planning on a report.ladajo wrote:Funny, US Main Stream media has ignored FAMULUS for a while. In typical fashion, this should perculate over to CNN and FOX in a few days as a minor in the SCI-TECH stuff.
Crazy, they guy lives in NYC, and London Mainstream picks it up first.
Also: The Interwebz are going nuts with this story. I have already received notifications of at least ten major traffic sites picking this up. We should see an explosion of secondary sites over the next few days.
I'm working on a list. I'll post a link - probably tomorrow or the next day.
I'm in contact with Famulus and he is just amazed at how this is breaking out.
The pressure on our government (and governments around the world) should be intense to get faster results.

The thing is most folks interested will look up "Robert Bussard" in the wiki and will find out about Polywell.krenshala wrote:I thought it odd (but not unexpected) how they focused on the negative perceptions of a "nuclear reactor in NYC" at the beginning and end of the article (what people will remember most) with only what appeared to me to be a token "but its safe and legal" mention-in-passing.

As to the negative stuff - news sells on fear. Hope these days is a somewhat degraded commodity.
Still - people with cash will be interested and we should see another round of VC interest out of this. Esp. since the BBC is world wide.
I have given Rick a heads up.
If nothing else it should solidify and increase the number of Polywell fans.

Thats true. Dr. B was always one of my favorites growing up (erg ... makes me feel older than 40 saying that :/ ) just because of how he did things. Having more people learn about him that wouldn't have otherwise can only be a good thing.MSimon wrote:The thing is most folks interested will look up "Robert Bussard" in the wiki and will find out about Polywell.krenshala wrote:I thought it odd (but not unexpected) how they focused on the negative perceptions of a "nuclear reactor in NYC" at the beginning and end of the article (what people will remember most) with only what appeared to me to be a token "but its safe and legal" mention-in-passing.

True enough.MSimon wrote:As to the negative stuff - news sells on fear. Hope these days is a somewhat degraded commodity.

Giving Rick a heads up, assuming he hadn't already seen it, is the least we can do.MSimon wrote:Still - people with cash will be interested and we should see another round of VC interest out of this. Esp. since the BBC is world wide.

I understand and in some way share your feeling, but we should also look at the other aspect of the issue.
VC money pouring into "Polywell type" research might convince US Navy (or EMC2) to drop the secrecy shield they have been hiding behind in the last period and start again to share/claim their discoveries.
We could really know in a cople of years if Polywell is indeed a feasible conceps or not.
