Just a random thought.
Can't we warm up some gamedesigner team to the polywell idea and have them insert it in a game?

I'm just wondering if the term 'polywell' could be absorbed into our everyday terminology by inserting it in games.
like, warpdrive, it's a word almost verybody knows, even people who do not watch startrek.
In the far future, we wil have cyborgs, androids, immortality and polywell.
Make polywell part of the expectation of the general public..
The standard way to insert new words in our language is through the newspapers.
Many journalists have added to our dictionary this way.

Hmmmm.... Fusion....
A close shave. Gillette "Fusion" razor.vernes wrote:What does the general public think fusion... means?
Why?
An entry level car. Ford "Fusion" ("Drive it like you mean it")
Now "nuclear fusion"... Unfortunately, that contains the word "nuclear"... That comes with its own connotations...
Which is why I like the whole "Polywell reactor" effort to break away from the baggage - good, bad or indifferent - of previous terminology...

polywell
- noun
An article about another project that seems to run on community driven media attention, and add "... like the polywell project."
And then, start calling references to this phenomenon, a 'polywell project' (like skunkwork projects are a phenomenon)
...
Or a completly different aproach, this is a bit farfetched.
- noun
- To reach the desired result with no or little downsides.
"To pull a polywell" - Taking a ignored concept, previously regarded as a dead end. And expand upon it to reach the result which was concidered unreachable.
"polywell the concept" - Exposing an project to a social network (internet) and succesfully draw the attention of a community of fans, experts and likeminded which fuel the media attention for the project.
"A polywell project"

#3 seems like a good place to start. There are a lot of humans in that story.vernes wrote:polywell

1. Bussard and Ligon cook up the amateur fusion movement.
a. Ligon does Analog article
2. Bussard's Google Talk finds new converts
3. New converts begin working the 'net
4. Big hitters (like Instapundit) take an interest
5. Specialty blogs, news groups, and talk boards show up
6. Funding restored - Bussard thanks bloggers
7. Nebel gets MSNBC attention - thanks bloggers
etc.
Stories with humans work better for the general media.
Used in a sentence: "He is trying to pull a Polywell for his rocket car idea."

OK. I've gone and done it. The Facebook Page of Polywell FusionDavidWillard wrote:Most of the projects and ongoing missions have Facebook accounts. I for one follow the Lunar Recon Orbiter. I want to see the pics of the water test impact this October.MSimon wrote:And don't forget the NASA Spaceflight board which was information central in the early days.

Perhaps someone should represent talk-polywell there? Tom Ligon are you able to get a press pass as a writer to the EMC2 labs for interviews and official updates?
Twitter may be a security risk and a time hogger from them doing real research as direct input from the lab.

Tell your favorite sci-fi writer about it. I have a short story I plan on mentioning them in passing in, the way I do things it'll take a while to get it written though. Sci-fi is important though, and if you start getting people in the genre to use it as a power source, it'll attract attention, just like Star Trek did with antimatter.
Evil is evil, no matter how small
dammn, now you've done it. THEY'll now have a short list of who to round up when they want to buried to technology. Have you seen this conspiracy...
I've been avoiding Facebook due to concerns about data mining. Then again, I'm starting to think that if I'm in the minority that doesn't have a facebook account, that singles me out as a troublemaker.
First they came for those without Facebook accounts....
Now where's my tinfoil hat, and get off my lawn.

In theory there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is.
