Yo, they are related to this group here:

Looks a bit like what Lockheed Martin was doing a few years back.

First video I've seen on them so far. Wisconsin High-field Axisymmetric Mirror (WHAM), it's got a great acronym.

I said it many times. With availability of High Field HTSC magnets almost any fusion design presented in the last 50 years will become feasible.
Economical and practical? That will be the real issue that will determine the winner.

Well, there has been to many promises over the years and to many delusive declarations. I have spoken to elderly engineers that attended to Alfven's lectures on fusion in the seventies.
The man completely deceived the politicians since they could not interpret a log-scale diagram. He made them believe that if he only got the money he asked for and a decade or so and the problem would be solved.
A referendum on nuclear power was kept in Sweden in the year of 1980 and it was decided that nuclear power should be fased out by the year 2010.
There were a lot of popular debate books published before the referendum. When I started to become interested in energy issues in my youth during the eighties I read many and remember them proclaiming the firm belief that thirty years from now fusion will be ready.
What fusion needs now is a robust demonstration of net energy gain in a contraption at least remotely resembling a useful power source. Not labcoats and incomprehensible articles in obscure journals.

Got same experience in Italy. Referendum in 1987 to make the country "Nuclear free".Munchausen wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 10:41 amA referendum on nuclear power was kept in Sweden in the year of 1980 and it was decided that nuclear power should be fased out by the year 2010.
It was my first vote and the first time I realized that I belonged to a very small minority of people with a long vision for the future and a free brain.
It was also the moment when I decided that I would not put Italy in the center of my future businesses. I never regretted that decision.
I mostly agree on all your points and the main argument of my previous post was just that. Technology for High Field HTSC and HV Feedthrought is now mature enough to give us the tools to transform almost every old fusion design into a feasible machine.Munchausen wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 10:41 amWhat fusion needs now is a robust demonstration of net energy gain in a contraption at least remotely resembling a useful power source. I personally don't see anymore an issue with technology, to me now is just an investments issue.
I strongly believe that in the coming 10 years (real ten years, not fusion years), we will finally see what we all have been waiting for.

To the best of my knowledge the high voltage feedthrough is a statement on X from the Avalanache Energy corporation and no published artifact.usesbiggerwords wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 4:19 pmWould this include this forum's namesake? I don't know of a single person here who wouldn't want to see a Polywell roar back to life.
The name Moein Borghei comes to my mind.
The Polywell has been declared officially dead following a doctorship in Australia. The potential well could not be created at a reasonable energy expense.

Good to know. RIP dear friend.Munchausen wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 4:25 pmThe Polywell has been declared officially dead following a doctorship in Australia.

No, the Richard Bowden-Reid research had little to do with the working mechanism of a properly designed and constructed Polywell.Munchausen wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 4:25 pm[The Polywell has been declared officially dead following a doctorship in Australia. What they tested was a completely different apparatus as I pointed out in the three posts I made at that time in this thread HERE.

Correct, Moein Borghei is the guy, and for what I know there is already several test objects that has been tested and they have been offering some of them also to other institutions for experimental runs.Munchausen wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 4:25 pmTo the best of my knowledge the high voltage feedthrough is a statement on X from the Avalanache Energy corporation and no published artifact.

Moein Borghei is still developing this new concept that is a real leap in the HV Feedthrough technology.

I believe so. Polywell would greatly benefit from both technologies.usesbiggerwords wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 4:19 pmWould this include this forum's namesake? I don't know of a single person here who wouldn't want to see a Polywell roar back to life.
The issue I see now is a lack of understanding from many VC/financing entities on how these technologies could actually bring back to life machines where research stopped for lack of results due to the technological limitations of the time.
I hope that once the fusion taboo will be broken someone will give Polywell another attempt.
