Very pretty. Intel is doing it too.

Now just put a small amount of plastic on them and send them against armies.

ISIS begins using hobby drones as improvised explosive devices

While ISIS has reportedly made use of consumer drones for some time as reconnaissance and surveillance operations, a new tactic has resulted in the first successful attack on Kurdish military forces by a drone strapped with explosives.
According to The New York Times, a small consumer drone packed with explosives detonated when it was shot down by Kurdish forces in Iraq. The resulting explosion killed two members of the Kurdish armed forces.

DARPA wants to control hundreds of air and ground drones from single controllers by providing a selection of swarming tactic options

DARPA wants to control hundreds of air and ground drones from single controllers by providing a selection of swarming tactic options

An advanced human-swarm interface to enable users to monitor and direct potentially hundreds of unmanned platforms simultaneously in real time. The program intends to leverage rapidly emerging immersive and intuitive interactive technologies (augmented and virtual reality, voice-, gesture-, and touch-based) to create a novel command interface with immersive situational awareness and decision presentation capabilities. The interface would also incorporate a swarm interaction grammar, similar in concept to playbooks coaches in soccer, basketball, and other games prepare with pre-made plays combined with “freestyle” design tools that allow dynamic action and reaction based on real-time conditions in the field.

Avatar-style S. Korean manned robot takes first baby steps

http://phys.org/news/2016-12-avatar-sty ... -baby.html

A giant South Korean-built manned robot that walks like a human but makes the ground shake under its weight has taken its first baby steps.
Designed by a veteran of science fiction blockbusters, the four-metre-tall (13-foot), 1.5 ton Method-2 towers over a room on the outskirts of Seoul.
The hulking human-like creation bears a striking resemblance to the military robots starring in the movie "Avatar".

Army Abrams Tanks to Control Robotic Attack Drones

Now who could have seen that coming?

The Army is preparing to configure Abrams tank prototypes able to control nearby “robotic” wing-man vehicles which fire weapons, carry ammunition and conduct reconnaissance missions for units on the move in combat, service officials said.
Although still in the early stages of discussion and conceptual development, the notion of manned-unmanned teaming for the Abrams continues to gain traction among Army and General Dynamics Land Systems developers.

These brothers built a mine-sweeping drone
To clear land mines without casualties

Brothers Massoud and Mahmud Hassani grew up in Kabul, Afghanistan, knowing that one wrong step could end their lives. “When we walked to school, we had a special path to follow—otherwise we would end up in a minefield,” Massoud says. Mines are cheap to manufacture and deploy, but slow and expensive to remove. An estimated 110 million land mines litter the globe, killing 15,000 to 20,000 people a year. Living among them “becomes like a mental disorder,” Massoud says. “The fear is on your mind all the time.”
After the Hassani family relocated to the Netherlands, the brothers created an anti-mine device based on a wind-powered tumbleweed toy they’d built as children. The Mine Kafon (kafon means “explode” in Dari) could roll through a minefield, detonating any mines it crossed and thus marking out a safe path. Though more conceptual than practical, it became a hit; New York’s Museum of Modern Art even bought one in 2012.

Robot-Targets are on Range Rage

Robot-Targets are on Range Rage

Enter Robotic Human-Type Targets from Australia’s Marathon Targets, they’re basically dummy mannequins on wheels with a computer embedded. The bots can be programmed to various scenario whether the bots is hit or not. The idea is to deploy human-looking dummies that can “look, move, and behave like people,” with a degree of networked autonomy. For example, when one bot goes down in a hail of gunfire, the others can respond by heading for cover or regroup for a counter-attack. No joystick required. To further add functionality to the training, scenarios can be program into the robots whether its for a hostage situation to a couple tangos walking along the street from 200 yards out.

HyperFace Camouflage

HyperFace Camouflage

HyperFace works by providing maximally activated false faces based on ideal algorithmic representations of a human face. These maximal activations are targeted for specific algorithms. The prototype above is specific to OpenCV’s default frontalface profile. Other patterns target convolutional nueral networks and HoG/SVM detectors. The technical concept is an extension of earlier work on CV Dazzle. The difference between the two projects is that HyperFace aims to alter the surrounding area (ground) while CV Dazzle targets the facial area (figure). In camouflage, the objective is often to minimize the difference between figure and ground. HyperFace reduces the confidence score of the true face (figure) by redirecting more attention to the nearby false face regions (ground).
