What amazes me about that NextBigFuture post is that it shows the Fusor vs. Elmore Tuck Watson machine art I knocked together years ago for an Analog article. I'm pleased that it is still considered good enough to illustrate the concepts, although Dr. Park's Wiffleball work discounts the importance of creating the potential well using essentially a "mag-grid" for electron acceleration in what is otherwise an Elmore Tuck Watson machine.

Mike Skilicorn, I think, although the white hair is a rather dramatic change from how I remember him.

My suggestion, when we added another Mike, was to start calling Mike Skilicorn "Skill". It fit him well. He's an excellent mechanical engineer, better at knowing how to get things built than I am.

Although I do still blame him just a little for losing a couple of small parts from the rip fence of my table saw.

"EMC2 plans to complete the final scientific proof of principle for the polywell technology around 2019-2020, using magnetic confinement to trap a plasma superheated to 50 million degrees. This will cost approximately 30 million USD, and EMC2 is presently seeking venture funding from entities such as venture capitalists, sovereign wealth funds, as well as support from academic institutions."

This is the same thing Bussard was saying in 2007. Man i wish so bad that wb7 didn't freakin vaporize itself. Was the government and the R&D industry unduly hard on Park & co? Is there anything to learn from this moving on forward?
