It was not quite as dexterous as this one and you had to make sure to throw the ball within a certain area around it, since it was not quite so fast.

It is not the fact that it can catch things that is news worthy. It is how it learns to catch objects. You show the video of you catching an object and then the object and it "learns " how to catch it and it improves how it catches it all in a very short time.
Example of the tennis racket it figure out it was better to catch it by the handle than by the top of the racket
