Today's latest one is choff claiming if heat passes through a layer, and heats a deeper layer, then the layer it passed through should have heated too, duplicating the heat from nowhere.

C'mon choff, I really prefer to talk to people who can add. You really are innumerate. You make these same kind of mistakes all the time. You don't even have the slightest concept what "big" means. You think it's maybe twice as big as "small."

Let's explore the fallacies of your understanding about water, heat, and what you imagine I both said and what the article describes. In the main I intend to ignore you as responding annoys the other T-P members but this is a definite display of ignorance on your part,

You imagine that the deep ocean is absorbing and hiding heat.
You imagine that heat can pass from the surface layer to the deep layer without heating the surface layer.
You imagine that I believe extra heat at the surface layer will heat the deep ocean to the same extent doubling the heat.

I don't believe in global warming.
I don't believe the deep ocean is hiding extra heat from global warming.
I don't believe the shallow ocean is absorbing extra heat from global warming.
I don't believe extra heat would double since I don't believe it exists in the first place, let alone that it would be possible to double.
I don't believe extra heat could pass through the shallow layers to the deep and not heat the shallow, temperature would drop off precipitously with depth regardless.

I'm sorry you're so stupid you don't "believe in" conservation of energy, but I'm not particularly concerned or impressed, other than with your stupidity and stubbornness.

This heat is making Earth warmer, somewhere, some way. Energy doesn't just disappear except in physics crank fairy tales.

The greenhouse/global warming theory states that as more carbon dioxide is pumped into the air, the atmosphere’s ability to vent excess heat to space will diminish. This is the mantra of global warming alarmism. More carbon dioxide means more heat gets clogged up in the climate system and the earth gets warmer and warmer. From this we have conjured up all the various climate disasters, movies, concerts, fixes, and swindles, with their varied political and economic benefactors and victims.

Enter 2009 and a new study by Dr. Richard Lindzen and Yong-Sang Choi from MIT that uses temperature data from satellites. As background we start with the predictions. The climate models say that as the oceans warmed by one degree Celsius from the 1980s into the 1990s, the amount of heat escaping to space would decrease. More heat would be trapped in the atmosphere, ultimately due to the burning of fossil fuels. The warming of the oceans was natural and part of the large multi-decadal temperature changes that have been known for years. Now if only we had a way to measure the amount of heat going out to space, then we could get some answers. We do, it’s called the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment Satellite (ERBE). It was in orbit above the earth measuring outgoing long wave radiation (heat) for 16 years from the mid 1980s to the late 1990s. This is very significant. Now we had a tool, and real world data, that we could compare to the computer model predictions. It is the ultimate climate system umpire.

The results from the Lindzen and Choi study were stunning. The computer models, all 11 of them, predicted that as the oceans and atmosphere warmed, the amount of heat escaping to space should decrease by 3 watts per square meter. If this were true, then the theory of manmade global warming would have a strong footing. But the satellite data used by the Lindzen and Choi inflicted a bone crushing blow to this assumption. As the oceans and atmosphere warmed, the measurements showed that the amount of heat escaping to space increased by 4 watts per square meter from the mid 1980s to the late 1990s. All the computer models were wrong. If the atmosphere is not trapping heat generated by warming oceans then there is no manmade global warming taking place.

The atmosphere compensated for the additional heat by opening the window a little more. The theory of global warming is lying on the canvas bloodied and dying. Alarmists will attempt to revive the carcass with even louder cries of impending doom and calls to repent. But this clamoring will fall on deaf ears. Science will ultimately prove the winner and the world will bury global warming in an icy grave where it belongs.

It's really quite simple.

It doesn't matter how much BS you sling; Y is less than X, so Earth is getting hotter.

Just as simple, easy, and straightforward as that.

And when we can actually measure the temperature increase, all your protests about the quality of the data are obviously not merely ridiculous, but deliberately deceitful. The satellite data say that the amount of heat is enough to account for the increase in temperature observed. There's nowhere to hide. X - Y heat is retained, and the temperature goes up by the necessary amount to account for it.

Your whining about the quality of the temperature data is destroyed by the satellite data's agreement with the terrestrial temperature data.

To top it all off, all your whining about oceanic temperature turns out to be wrong; the middle depths of the ocean are warming as predicted to account for the missing heat that is not showing up in the atmosphere.

Big surprise conservation of energy wins duh.

The energy per unit area is measured all the time at multiple levels, from satellite to ground stations, including weather balloons and on top of mountains. This is the most measured figure in the entire freakin' world. You're an idiot if you think there's any question about its value.

The energy coming out of the Earth is the second most measured figure. Dude this is totally obvious I have no idea why you think there aren't fifty weather satellites measuring this. This is totally duh. You see infrared satellite pictures in every forecast, if you've ever actually watched one instead of gurgling on your spit or learning to make snapping noises with your tongue or whatnot.

This stuff is continuously available for weather forecasting, and space weather forecasting (allowing satellite owners to shut their stuff down during the worst parts to keep it from getting fried, not to mention national power grids to prevent damage to tertiary stations' high voltage transmission compensation equipment).
