In WW1 the Wilson Administration took over all sorts of industries to "help the war effort." The more I look at these things the more it looks to me as if they took things over to demonstrate how much better progressives could run things than the putative owners and badly they could fail.:

1000 ships were ordered, but only 90 were commissioned before the war was over. The Wilson Administration continued to build the ships, made from wood, until 1919, I guess as a jobs program and the ships were just left to rot. This is the same thing that you see I all socialist style programs where all the feedback and responsibility are nonexistent.

We need a directorate of science, and we need it to be voted on only by scientists. You don't get to vote on reality. Get over it. Elected officials that deny the findings of the Science Directorate are subject to immediate impeachment for incompetence.

The ships build by gooberment industry as a jobs program then left to rot reminds me of the recent Chinese ghost cities, built for unknown purpose then abandoned incomplete when some manager changed his mind.
The daylight is uncomfortably bright for eyes so long in the dark.

Very expensive Potemkin Village. Socialist thinking simply doesn't exist in a rational mind.
