Re: Why Are Malicious People Allowed Here?
I'm fairly careful about what I say, mostly because I value my reputation not because of any fear of getting sued. But as a result I always cite a source. And it's not a source being sued for defamation, either.
We need a directorate of science, and we need it to be voted on only by scientists. You don't get to vote on reality. Get over it. Elected officials that deny the findings of the Science Directorate are subject to immediate impeachment for incompetence.

Jccarlton wrote:I think he went to school, at least through high school and he's said things that lead me to believe that he may have at leas started college. But It seems he drank the indoctrination Kool aid right out of the communal tank and hasn't tried to learn anything real since. He seems to get his physics out of every crank fad book and online site that comes along, his knowledge of his favorite topic, AGW, is truly pathetic and he seems so limited in everything else. I have a friend with Aspergers that's like him in a lot of ways.Diogenes wrote:Jccarlton wrote:The funny thing is that the commenter brought up the Mann lawsuit. Looking back through a search of Mann's name there's no long thread of defamation or anything other than discussion of Mann avoidance issues, issues with the 1998 hockey stick chart paper and they usual stuff. Nobody was calling Mann names, they commenting on his work and it's issues, which are well known. It must be strange looking at AGW only through desmogged glasses. It's like trying to see the road at night through deep tinted sunglasses. The funny thing is that when presented with the facts, our commenter just does stuff like this, escalating threats. He must have been hell in school.
You think he went to school? I was under the impression that he was self uneducated.
You give him too much credit to think he might suffer from Aspergers. More like full bore autism.

In fairness, there are very bright people who skip over the whole education system because they do learn faster on their own. Some gifted children have a highly developed sense of justice, I've seen some of them become environmentalists because they're easily shocked by the images of ordinary logging activities, not realizing nature can be far more destructive on it's own. In example, local greens prevented clearing overgrowth in Vancouver's Stanley Park, then we had a windstorm that leveled much of what they wanted preserved. Another example would be the Loomis forest fire, totally preserved forest where humans could no longer enter, reduced to cinders.

It's really a shame so many people think math isn't important.
I pity the innumerate.

After listening to the fools who live in the Olympic Forest try to pretend pine beetle has nothing to do with global warming, sorry but I have no sympathy.

Back to the topic, insulting Obama is one thing; he's a public personality and knowingly let himself in for that by running for office. It's an established legal principle that he can't sue for defamation.
Michael Mann, however, is a private individual, a scientist, and as a scientist his reputation is all-important. Lying about him is defamation, and you can expect him to prosecute it vigorously.

They do have serious difficulty in realizing the consequences of their own stupid ideas before they are put into effect.

There is a problem with assuming that just because things are certain way, that they have always been that way. And actin on you assumption. Large herbivores are not small herbivores and they have different impacts that may not be understood:choff wrote:In fairness, there are very bright people who skip over the whole education system because they do learn faster on their own. And logging may not be the disaster the greens think it is. Things change and the world adapts and changes.

Good intentions don't guarantee good results - especially when you don't apparently have a good idea on how to actually accomplish the good intentions.Diogenes wrote:They do have serious difficulty in realizing the consequences of their own stupid ideas before they are put into effect.choff wrote:In fairness, there are very bright people who skip over the whole education system because they do learn faster on their own. When opinion and reality conflict - guess which one is going to win in the long run.

If the Chinese build a hundred nuclear plants and have one accident every hundred years the damage will be minor compared to the thousand coal plants they plan.JLawson wrote:Good intentions don't guarantee good results - especially when you don't apparently have a good idea on how to actually accomplish the good intentions.

It still cracks me up that the biggest hypocrite posted this thread.

Or the logic, or lack thereof, that led him to believe that there would be any positives for him. I guess he thought that because some of us quoted from Watts, we were somehow potential parties to the Mann suit, never mind that Watts was a not a defendant in the suit in the first place and you don't become liable for simply quoting somebody else. This is just lying to "I'm going to get you in trouble." And then if he pointed at us and said "they've been bad daddy," Joe would kick all the unclean off the board and he would have it to himself. Childish crap.Diogenes wrote:It still cracks me up that the biggest hypocrite posted this thread.
