Oreos As Addictive As Cocaine

Or correlation does not mean causation:

Rats like Oreos better than rice cakes, who knew?

Like i have said before: the brain reacts to sugar in much the same way as cocaine.

so not surprised.

Correlation might be evidence of causation in the presence of other factors.

It's much more true to say correlation is not necessarily proof of causation by itself. Liars who are parsing evidence misuse and misquote that one almost as much as they do the argument from false authority, pretending it extends to valid authority as well.

I find it amazing how someone can do a study and find something that is obviously and stupidly wrong, and yet people will treat the study seriously.

People. . .if Oreos were as addictive as cocaine and legally available, would not the entire nation be eating nothing but Oreos?

Seriously folks, get some common sense. No one ever got a rush from sugar the way they do from cocaine. Any study that says the addiction is similar is just idiotic.

Why do you say that? Just common sense perhaps?
I will try to find the studies themselves.

http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the ... odies-dont
...sugar leads to dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens – an area associated with motivation, novelty, and reward.
...that there are similarities in the brains of obese people and those of drug addicts and alcoholics.
Sugar consumption also leads to release of endogenous opioids in the brain; leading to a rush of pleasure, similar (although not of the same magnitude) as injecting heroin. Interestingly, heroin addicts show increased cravings for sweets when they are first abstinent. This effect, known as cross-tolerance, shows that addiction to one substance makes it easier to become addicted to another substance that may use the same brain chemistry.
not the same as cocaine but very similar reactions in the brain

Duh. . .what did I just write?

Look, ANYONE who has used coke knows it is vastly more addictive than sugar. EVERYONE knows it.

And you want to take the word of a rat?

Unbelievable.

I think what amazes me most is you rationalize pretending your statement is different from mine.

I have had a few run ins with coke - I was in the music business after all. A LONG time ago. Salesmen. This song describes the scene well:

Rush - the Spirit of the Radio

The record salesmen ALWAYS brought coke.

I hated the stuff. The jangling nerves. The sleep disruption. All of it.

And you know what? Despite the "addictiveness" you could put a pile of Bolivian Marching Powder in front of me and I wouldn't touch it. Not a taste. Not a sniff. Nothing.

OTOH if given a package of Oreos I'd inhale them. Well, actually I'd gobble them in a short period. Washed down with my other favorite drug - triple strength coffee. Followed by a few hits of tobacco. For the sheer pleasure of it. I also LOVE the endorphin/endocannabinoid rush I get from sex. Not bad for a 69 yo. Mom says the sex drive runs strong in the Simon family. Dad was active into his late 70s. Funny the things Mom will tell you when you are old enough. Luckily my bad habits are not against the law. YET.

I think that the problem here is that some people get too literal and don't see the joke, which had nothing to do with Oreos, Cocaine or rats and a lot to do with poor scientific technique and correlation of bad study data.

Learn about sugar!

Replace the Oreo with any sugary target and I am sure the results would have been the same.
Sugar is not as addictive as cocaine but it is everywhere.
from the videos:
of the 600 000 foodstuffs available in supermarkets, 80% contain added sugars.
