This month:

Not only is it a disaster, it's still happening-- and TEPCO is still lying.

We need a directorate of science, and we need it to be voted on only by scientists. You don't get to vote on reality. Get over it. Elected officials that deny the findings of the Science Directorate are subject to immediate impeachment for incompetence.
Re: Straight Talk On Fukushima
The real disaster danger until the new year is airborne, that's when they complete removing damaged spent fuel rods from reactor 4's damaged pool sitting above the damaged reactor. Then they can worry about the reactor itself, a long cleanup job ahead. Apparently some of those spent rods contain plutonium, if the building were to collapse with the pool and the rods caught on fire, the problems get a lot bigger.

This is what happens when you let accountants run a nuclear reactor.

Firstly let us get something clear. There was no Fukushima nuclear disaster. Total number of people killed by nuclear radiation at Fukushima was zero. Total injured by radiation was zero. Total private property damaged by radiation….zero. There was no nuclear disaster.
So everyone displaced by radioactive fallout has returned home? Sounds like the criteria is a little off.
Farmers can't plow their fields and people can't return home, that is a disaster for them is it not?
The fact that the core meltdowns did not drop through the containment floor is a testament to reaction design and some brave people.
As previously stated, the plant design was crap.

The Union of Concerned Scientists has technical reviews of the first 60 minutes at Dai-Ichi 2 and the first 80 minutes at Dai-Ichi 3.

http://www.ucsusa.org/assets/documents/ ... inutes.pdf
Their one-year safety review last March was pretty good, but unfortunately was rendered obsolete by the current problems that started two months after it was released, in May, so I don't link it.
There's also a "what happened?" PowerPoint slide deck, but it's pretty light on detail, as such things usually are.
I recommend the site. I occasionally send them a few bucks. They're not whiny anti-nuke environmentalists who lie and don't understand half life and such like.

Well, the fixes to prevent it were known and TEPCO put them off to save money. That's what I meant about accountants running the nuclear reactor. There would have been no problem had the accountants done their jobs. Instead they tried to steal money, like accountants always do, and the first thing they did was cancel safety upgrades. Typical accountants.Stubby wrote:Jccarlton wrote:Considering just the facts:

In the old days scum like this committed seppuku. The current crop don't have enough honor.

The biggest issue on Fukushima is ignoring the scaremongers and their endless exaggerations:

The fact that these people have been caught lying repeatedly would tend to make you that their credibility would get worn, but our Progressive media trots out Gunderson and Wasserman over and over as if they had clue or weren't just lying through their teeth.

What scaremongers? The Japanese government has moved the farmers off their land because it's not safe.Jccarlton wrote:The biggest issue on Fukushima is ignoring the scaremongers and their endless exaggerations:

Are the Japanese government "scaremongers?" Do you seriously propose that people should go back to their land when the government says it's not safe and posts soldiers and police to stop them?
Would you feed your children milk from cows that had eaten irradiated grass from contaminated ground?
Are you crazy?

Re: Straight Talk On Fukushima
Finally, as far as whether it was a "disaster" or not, hydrogen explosions blew the tops off two containments. How is that not a "disaster," no matter how much land was affected surrounding it (which is substantial, half the size of a US state, its other claim to be a "disaster").
The first claim in your linked article is proven ridiculous two different ways.
See ya. Wouldn't wanna be ya.
