So here goes - there is good evidence - it came out at the trial - that Trayvon Martin was assaulting George Zimmerman. Witnesses noted that George was getting his head beat into the ground. That kind of assault has the potential to be life ending. If the assailant will not stop - witnesses note George asking it to stop - deadly force is allowed.
Moral of the story - it is unwise to assault some one in a concealed carry State. Which is most of them these days.
Other moral of the story - don't get suspended from school. Further moral of the story - if a suspicious character is eying you - go home. More - ambulance chasers (Crump) and PR firms do not do well when there is actual evidence.
Of course there was the "narrative" - and any one who takes the general press seriously deserves what they get when the "narrative" does not match the evidence

Well yes. We are still recovering from the Little Ice Age.
Trouble is - none of the people touting the models predicted a pause of the current length. Or snow in the UK for that matter. This is what was being predicted in 2000:

In 2010:

When predictions do not match reality - time for new models.

I'm disappointed with the SYG law, but frankly, when he disobeyed the dispatcher I think he took all liability, both civil and criminal, on himself, SYG law or no SYG law. The police told him they were sending backup and to hang loose. No one was in danger; there was no excuse for using or even threatening deadly force. Without a badge or any authority, Trayvon was free to react to Zimmerman as he would react to anyone who threatened him.
In any state without a SYG law Zimmerman would be in prison for murder. And he'd've had better sense than to ever get out of the car, or he'd be in prison now and trying to figure how to answer a million dollar lawsuit.
You're not a cop. Stay in the car. The cops are coming. Stay in the car. You're not trained. Stay in the car.
Is my point coming across?
Just to be explicit, this is the "stand your murder young black men" statute.
And it's written by two of the most Nazi rich people in the nation, two of the top ten. They're good with killing young black men. They think it ought to be done. Their names are the Koch brothers.
That's who invented the "Stand Up For Your Black Man Murder" law.
Deep South jury.
Murdering someone because they're black and that makes you scared is supposed to be the new normal, according to you people.

I'm sorry neither of your sources are scientific papers. We can use newspapers to substantiate physical events, that is news, but for theory I'm afraid I'm going to have to insist we stick to the science. It's clear that you will diverge the conversation by any trick you can muster if I do not.MSimon wrote:Climate change?

Neither the Independent nor the popular site Accuweather is competent to comment on climate geophysics. I'm also excluding the National Enquirer, or more to the point Huffington Post and FireBagLake. We're pretty much going to have to stick to the peer-reviewed press because the paid deniers have polluted every other source. Furthermore, they have even attempted to pollute the literature with faked "scholarly journals" that last only a few months or only publish twice a year or similar, and are half politics, totally inappropriate for the scientific literature.
The last time antics like these were seen they were practiced by the Communists, for example regarding Lysenkoism and Lamarckism. Before them, of course, the eugenics of the Nazis.
Anyway, back to your "Prediction of a pause of the current length," you've picked the most variable value at the exact time when the two cycles, one pseudo-random and one semi-periodic, have both gone to their low states and are on their way back up, before the system's momentum has had time to be reversed. The Sun is getting hotter, and the system is getting more and more likely to flip back to El Niño, during which the temperature will go up fast, with each year that goes by. And the longer it takes to build up the nastier it will be, like all storms.

Let me be clear: there are nutjob "loopy lefties," who hate global warming because it makes them idiots for objecting to nuclear energy.
I approve of nuclear energy, but I need to see proper regulation to trust it. I think Fukushima shows what can happen even with a fairly safe design if proper precautions are not taken. And in fact, it also illustrates that such precautions, or more properly the money for them, can be postponed but eventually those cows will come home to roost. And you really wanna stay out from under the cows.
But Fukushima is a minor problem compared to Chernobyl, and Three Mile Island remains even more minor than either, despite its fame; the only reason anyone paid any attention to TMI was because of the movie The China Syndrome. It was almost as destructive to nuclear energy as the radio broadcast from the site of the Hindenberg fire was to aerial travel by dirigible.
And of course I know a lot of physics so I know fusion is far cleaner (or can be). I'm in favor of using fission until we can get fusion working, along with many other sources of energy. Whatever it takes; and I guess we'll have to clean up the mess. Just, can we not make unnecessary messes? Really, I've had to give up gulf shrimp. Luckily I have local squid and crab.

Re: Ignorance Is No Excuse
If you look at the evidence George did not disobey the dispatcher.
That was the "narrative" which is contradicted by the evidence. When asked not to follow by the dispatcher George said OK.
Being an engineer I like to look at the actual evidence.
Counter point - had Tray gone home and stayed he would be alive today.
============
But all that does not matter. What matters is the final assault by Trayvon. Which was witnessed. Tray should have stopped the assault when requested. According to witnesses he continued the assault for at least 45 seconds after being requested to quit.
=============
BTW the case had nothing to do with SYG. It was not even seriously considered in the trial. Why? With Trayvon on top of and assaulting Zimmerman - Zimmerman had no way to retreat.
BTW SYG is/was a favorite of the narrative creators. And you sir are a victim of the narrative. I'm so happy to have contact with some one so smart.
===========
It is fortunate for you that you are so much smarter than the rest of us. Your intelligence is indeed impressive. It obviates any need for you to examine the actual evidence. Keep up the good work. We can all benefit from your outstanding brain power.

Don't expect any further replies. It has all been discussed to death here and I have work to do.

So young black men shouldn't go to 7-eleven to buy skittles, peanuts and raisins, and a Big Gulp?MSimon wrote:If you look at the evidence George did not disobey the dispatcher.

Dude, never mind the racial implications, are you sure 7-eleven is all down with that?
Really?
Think about it.
I'm sorry, I'm done with anything past Z getting out of the car. That, in my judgment, is when Z took all responsibility, and I see racism in protecting him from the consequences of his actions because T was black. Sorry but that's honestly how I see it.MSimon wrote:But all that does not matter. What matters is the final assault by Trayvon. Which was witnessed. No, it's written by ALEC and funded by the Koch brothers. Have fun being played by the rich guys. When's your night in the barrel?MSimon wrote:BTW SYG is/was a favorite of the narrative creators. And you sir are a victim of the narrative. I'm so happy to have contact with some one so smart.

Frankly this sounds like you're whining again because I'm still smarter than you. This is really not making you look very good, dude.
You keep saying that and you keep coming back.MSimon wrote:Don't expect any further replies. It has all been discussed to death here and I have work to do.
Don't expect reality to stop existing anytime soon.
Get better.
And you can accept global warming, or reality can stuff it... Well. Sorry but that's just how it is.
Honestly, I wish there was no global warming, and I wish nuclear plants couldn't melt down. I'm halfway to getting my second wish.
I wish no one believed in "race." That one I expect to die before, but I have done all I can to help along. Not by just denying it; by refusing to participate in it. Even at my own cost because I'd rather be fair than screw someone to get ahead. Even if they're not my "race." Fair is fair.

Why do you hate 7-eleven?
And do you really think shooting young black men for going to 7-eleven and threatening you with scary skittles and terrorist tea on their way home is OK after the dispatcher tells you to wait for the cops? I mean, they might have a really good reason. Like for example keeping your paranoid self from shooting a random black dude in the face for buying skittles and tea and making you all afraid and stuff.
