Yes, it is a bit hypocritical for Gore to live in a McMansion, especially when the meme spread about housing is that we all ought to be satisfied with less. Much worse is his traveling very often in a private jet rather than taking mass air transport. However, I would not call Gore an idiot. He truly believes what he says.

He's OK. He's a bit of a wuss though. OTOH he does know more tech personally than most politicians; blows it on things like the polar bears occasionally, but if that's the only one he blew, from a scientific POV, it's far far better than any other politician. He also doesn't have Bush 43's daddy's buddies to do all his mansion upgrades for free.

It's just that like most beliefs adopted apart from reason, where one believes either what one wants to be true or is afraid is true (hence the division of delusions: grandiose and paranoid), he adopted the belief in AGW and acted on it with no concern for the repercussions if the thing he is afraid of were NOT true.

The repercussions are enormous and just saying, the pressure to respond to the AGW thesis predates all the data by decades--since before when our new troll was born.

Despite all that I will say Gore's book is worth reading and I thought the fact he jumped on X-33 was terrific. I wish we had more VP's who gave a darn about NASA.

As I have explained many times (you were too busy being an abusive asshole to listen) I think the evidence is inconclusive. There has been a huge amount of fraud on the AGW side of the argument and excellent scientists very often poke fun at how ridiculous the pro-AGW arguments are.

I used to teach this stuff as a TA at Portland State in Environmental Ethics, and I'm telling you, you do not know what you pretend to know. Most of what you believe is wrong. For instance, the planet is currently in a cooling phase because our sun is in a cooling phase. We don't know what the climate will be like when the sun goes hotter again in a few years, and because the science is so poor--actually qualifies as pathological in many instances--we are not finding out whether our way of life is in danger.

Regardless though, it is entirely true that if the planet heats significantly, there are plenty of ways for humanity to survive. There is after all, an entire untaped continent under ice right now. That's prime real estate that hasn't been used in 30 million years.

I can explain why CO2 is a global warming gas, what its spectrum is, what types of vibration of the molecule absorb and emit what exact wavelength of photon, what the likelihood of that photon being emitted in any given direction is, where the heat comes from, where the heat goes, and where the CO2 comes from and where it goes. Sorry, I think I know EVERYTHING about it. And you don't appear to be prepared to discuss any of it. Have you ever even reviewed either any GISS GCM, or the HADCRUT models? Personally I don't think you know anything about either the physics or the geophysics of the problem, nor anything at all about models.

The "cooling phase" you're talking about will lead to the next glaciation in about thirty thousand years. And it's caused by the Milankovic cycles, not the solar cycle.
