Republicans Hate Fusion

Post by Schneibster »

We need a directorate of science, and we need it to be voted on only by scientists. You don't get to vote on reality. Get over it. Elected officials that deny the findings of the Science Directorate are subject to immediate impeachment for incompetence.

That's govt for you, Polywell gets underfunded and the boondoggle ITER gets 10's of billions. When venture capital invests, however, they manage and fund their efforts with intelligence as evidenced by General Fusion and Tri Alpha, and they avoid the socialist twins, Repubs and Democs.

This conservative / registered republican is annoyed that the polywell is dependent on government funding.

Moi aussi, but I would note to you that the entire project, start to finish; has always been open to private funding. If the Navy had not stepped in, it would likely still not be getting funding.

Kudos for the Navy. At least it is still a possible option for the future.

And obviously, one can note that each time funding has appeared, it was under Republican leadership.

That was ultimately Bussard's mistake. To avoid dealing with people he did not trust, he went with folks he thought he could trust, people who answer to bureaucrats and politicians. It has to be the the biggest and cruelest joke on the world, the idea of getting help from the government!

Oh, and the reason no private firm is investing is that the patent has been turned down, so no protection on the investment. If you don't buy this reason, ask yourself why is General Fusion and Tri Alpha getting the funding from venture capital and not Polywell? And remember Bussard turned down the private investments before turning to the Navy

And the reason Polywell is not fully funded from the Navy? Right, bureaucrats and politicians (Repubs and Democs).

Forbes magazine recently started bitching about the peanuts of NIAC2 funding MSNW got for their fusion driven rocket. The piece was a total slander and full of wrongs. The author even went to pull out the NIF as a means to say "see fusion is a waste of money".
Because that bit of fusion and plasma research is going to break the bank compared to trillions that went (and are still going) into a destroyer and a fighter jet that turned out to be complete junk.
