Students learned conservatism is “the political belief of preserving traditional moral values by restricting personal freedoms … ”

Conversely, they learned liberalism is “the political belief of equality and personal freedom for everyone, often changing the current system to increase government protection of civil liberties.”

When you are educated by the state it is inherently propaganda...there just naturally going to tend to see their side of things as "right". Helped along by teachers/school officials that are practically impossible to fire...text books pre-selected by I am not sure who etc. Doesn't really do much good to vote in new school board members if "collective bargaining" means they can't get rid of teachers who are following a carefully indoctrinated agenda. Tenure at college is even worse. The school officials "investigating" the incident in the link you provided won't/can't do much to discipline the teacher in question who wrote that, even assuming they want to.

But that is the face of conservatism currently. It is a bad idea for schools to be selling this. But in the current environment it is not generally untrue. Current conservatism cares no more for the Constitution than liberalism does: i.e. where convenient.

Godd@mit Simon, will you ever tire of constantly repeating this lie? NOBODY has a RIGHT to do drugs, just like NOBODY has a RIGHT to spread diseases, or refuse to pay taxes. This isn't a question of personal freedom. No nation can survive if they allow their population to die off.


If a nation will not deal with threats to it's existence it will cease to be a nation and it will be taken over by someone who will deal with such threats.

Behold America, this is where Simon wants us to go.

Afghanistan produces 90% of all opiate drugs in the world, but until recently was not a major consumer. Now, out of a population of 35 million, more than a million are addicted to drugs - proportionately the highest figure in the world.

Right in the heart of Kabul, on the stony banks of the Kabul River, drug addicts gather to buy and use heroin. It's a place of misery and degradation.

"Traditionally, what we tend to argue is that the demand causes the supply," says Jean-Luc Lemahieu, regional representative of the UN drugs agency UNODC - one of the few organisations working on drug eradication in Afghanistan.

"What we have forgotten, though, is that… the sheer appearance of that product on the market causes a local demand."

He can't seem to learn from the experience of other individuals or even other nations, he wants us to replicate this failed idea here.

Lets see. Out of a population of 35 million 1 million are addicted to drugs. About 2.9%. I thought heroin was way more addictive than that. Out of all the people who tried it in Afghanistan under 3% are addicted? How is that possible? The numbers in America (% wise) are about half that.

Tobacco is more addicting. Way more.

When tobacco is hard to get women will prostitute themselves for cigarettes. Shouldn't we outlaw tobacco? In order to increase prostitution.

Only the Brits come off better, since they preferred to barter cigarettes and chocolate for sex with the defeated enemy.

The only part of neo-conservatism that is in any respect conservative, is its ties to the religious wakos and the use of religious conservative. So, I stand by statement.

You have a distinct lack of understanding about the various substrata of the Republican constituencies.


Neocons are pretty much dismissive of the religious sections of the party. They are more akin to you guys. (And they are responsible for most of the screwups of the Bush administration.)
