Cancer has claimed the life of Dr. Bussard, according to Power and Control as well as the old NASA Spaceflight Forum thread. There is also a thread here in the History forum (though this is current news, not history quite yet).
I hope and believe that the work will continue, and will be a lasting and fitting legacy.

oh, wow. This is truly bad news... very sad news.
Who is he survived by.
...he had some unfinished business here, and it pains me too see someone that actually cares about making a difference in this world(proven by years of dedication to fusion development), pass away.
