There are times when your ass is on the line, when failure is NOT an option. During these times you have to make sure that you do not screw up that, you demonstrate your competence in the task ahead. For the Progressive movement the ACA was on of those times. Even if the bill was passed under shake circumstances, politically I don't see failure as an option. Especially with Conservatives and tea party types literally marching in the streets over tax and spend policies and continuous record deficits. This is the time to bring out your "A" game or well just about everything you Progressives worked for will probably go down the tubes for generations. Yet what did you do? You treated the ACA the same way you treat everything else, like some social club party game. You hired cronys to do the most important part, the exchanges:

http://washingtonexaminer.com/feds-revi ... le/2537194
Rather than the best people out there. They made a website so bad that it is a perfect example of how NOT to set a website, an example that will probably be used in classes around the world for decades:
http://blog.isthereaproblemhere.com/sea ... thcare.gov
Then you set it up so that it wants to get people's personal information up front. So that you could spin a bad deal:

Essentially you are treating your potential customers as idiots. Do you really think that most people in their 20's and 30's, your intended market don't know how a website is supposed to work? Or won't back out when asked for personal information over an unsecured website before making the commitment to buy. Nobody's that stupid. Which is why it's time to panic:

The ACA, Demonstrates Everything Wrong With Progressivism
Re: The ACA, Demonstrates Everything Wrong With Progressivis
I can see this reflecting badly on Obama and his administration, and to a lesser extent on the Democratic Party. But on the Progressive movement as a whole? I doubt it. After all, cronyism and incompetence when it comes to IT systems is not uniquely associated with Progressivism.

Perhaps the whole stink won't stick to progs as a group, but I see no possibility without a proggy rewrite of history that it will judge OBama less than a leader for the dopey roll out. One can blame back and forth for the nonsense in DC but the fact is, ACA has had so MANY different things wrong with it, and the 19 changes made by Presidential Fiat are completely unconstitutional.

The whole idea of forcing people to get insurance bothers me greatly.
Insurance companies are not in the business of losing money. Patients will NOT be their first priority.
Either provide univrsal health care to everyone or don't.
The half assed ACA (aka federal Romneycare) is going to comeback to haunt a lot of people.

I see it more as a step in the right direction. It does have to be admitted that we'd need a bureaucracy the size of all the medical insurance departments and companies if we did go with universal healthcare. Would it cost less? Long term, probably... but short term it would be an enormous investment.Stubby wrote:The whole idea of forcing people to get insurance bothers me greatly.

It's sure better than nothing:
1. No more "pre-existing conditions."
2. No more lifetime limits.
3. 100% coverage for everyone all the time for preventive care.
Those just off the top of my head. I have seen an article that has a full page of them. I think it was on Think Progress or the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. I can find it if anyone wants.

Furthermore, the teabaggers screwed ACA up. If not for you we'd have a public option.
