Naval Energy Forum

Post by KitemanSA »

Dear Naval Energy Stakeholder,

Together with Navy Task Force Energy, the Office of Naval Research (ONR) is co-hosting the first Naval Energy Forum at the Hilton Tyson's Corner, McLean, Virginia, 14-15 October.

The Naval Energy forum provides an opportunity for two-way dialogue on the Department of the Navy's (DON) emerging energy strategy. Navy and Marine Corps leadership are discussing the objectives of the new energy strategy and the challenges of meeting future Naval energy needs. In addition to the technology perspective, the forum covers how the DON is making the necessary cultural shift to ensure energy and environmental stewardship are included in daily decision-making.

Science and technology (S&T) investments provide many solutions, but S&T is just one focus area of the forum. The six Task Force Energy working groups: Maritime, Aviation, Alternative Fuels, Environment, Expeditionary, and Shore are presenting Naval energy requirements and opportunities as they relate to:
- Energy security
- Energy efficiency
- The Environment

At this forum, the DON seeks to partner with other services, agencies, think-tanks, academia and industry in the exploration of innovative solutions. The focus is on mitigating the vulnerabilities associated with dependence on foreign oil and lowering the carbon footprint associated with Navy and Marine Corps energy consumption.

Please join us at the Naval Energy Forum as we:
- Introduce the Department of the Navy's energy strategy and objectives
- Present energy program challenges and discuss possible technology solutions
- Learn and share feedback on energy use, efficiency and environmental stewardship

Sign-up to receive alerts about the Naval Energy Forum as it develops! Registration will open in June.

Finally, as the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps employ energy technology solutions and efficient practices, we seek ways to act as global agents of positive change in support of America's quest for energy independence.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

NEVIN P. CARR, JR.
Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy
Chief of Naval Research

And

PHILIP H. CULLOM
Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy
Director, Fleet Readiness/Task Force Energy
