Latest drug addict loons.
Re: Latest drug addict loons.
It can be way more than a factor of 10.

The interaction problem is always a problem. but the issue specific to cannabis is that when you take too much, you hallucinate, and that is when killing others or killing yourself is likely to happen. . .as in this news story above. Both happened and both related to too much cannabis. No other drugs involved. Hallucinogens are extremely dangerous for precisely this reason.

Don't forget the Paranoia that the Pro-pot crowd is fervently trying to dismiss as not true or real.
What a nice mix: Hallucinations + Paranoia = Certainty of Problematic Behaviour
It is always nice to let the drugs think for you. Unfortunately the Pro-drug crowd does not see that as an issue or concern.

Who says pot is harmless?Columbia University researchers performing a toxicology examination of nearly 24,000 driving fatalities concluded that marijuana contributed to 12% of traffic deaths in 2010, tripled from a decade earlier.
...
A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study found that 4% of drivers were high during the day and more than 6% at night, and that nighttime figure more than doubled on weekends.
Colorado has seen a spike in driving fatalities in which marijuana alone was involved, according to Insurance.com. The trend started in 2009 — the year medical marijuana dispensaries were effectively legalized at the state level.

When people switch from alcohol to pot traffic fatalities go down. It is not a matter of harmless. It is a matter of better or worse.hanelyp wrote:http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/car ... /10219119/Who says pot is harmless?Columbia University researchers performing a toxicology examination of nearly 24,000 driving fatalities concluded that marijuana contributed to 12% of traffic deaths in 2010, tripled from a decade earlier.

Too bad that they are mixing pot with alcohol and driving. Which is MUCH worse.
But you don't want to talk about that do you?
Take it somewhere else please. It is nice around here when you are not spamming pro-drug crap.

Those people are polydrug users and have significant PTSD problems. And the main cause of mixing is unreliable sources of cannabis. Since you care so much about the issue I'm sure you would like to see them get more secure supplies of cannabis. Wouldn't you?ladajo wrote:Too bad that they are mixing pot with alcohol and driving. This is the real world MEASURED effect:

http://www.nber.org/papers/w4662
We really do not have a drug problem. We have a PTSD problem. Mainly.Drug use and heroin use history
Those with PTSD had a more extensive history of polydrug use, having used a greater number of drug classes in their lifetime and in the preceding 6 months compared to those without PTSD. Although the frequency of current heroin use was similar for those with and without PTSD, those with PTSD were more likely to have experienced heroin overdose.
Criminal activity
Those with PTSD were more likely to have committed violent crime in the preceding month.
Physical and mental health
Of major clinical importance are the high rates of comorbidity found among those with PTSD. Those with PTSD had poorer general physical and mental health, and were more likely to have current Major Depression, have attempted suicide, and screen positive for Borderline Personality Disorder.

What we really have is a system that promotes easy-way-out coping mechanisms and coddling.
Stop seeking excuses and blame elsewhere.
Drugs think for the user. It is all downhill from there.
We (yes, not just me) have prevouisly debunked your driving high is safer crap. Please stop peddling it again.
You continue to cherry pick and misrepresent at will. There is no useful argument or debate to be had with you.
Your hack approach to propanganda would serve you well in Russia. Maybe you could find a real job with Putin.
Oh, but he is anti-drug. Ooops. I guess that won't work. (Like you.

I propose banning alcohol to prevent that.ladajo wrote:What we really have is a system that promotes easy-way-out coping mechanisms and coddling.

I can't currently work for Putin. My son is with the US Embassy in Moscow. I wouldn't care to compromise him.
In any case Drug Prohibition is coming to an end. And at this point you are powerless to stop it. I think it will be an improvement. You are of a different opinion. We shall see.
If history is any guide the end of alcohol prohibition had its down side but overall most people these days think it was an improvement. It ended kids serving the black market. I expect the same this time.
With an addition. A cure for cancer and a number of other diseases. See:
Dennis Hill biochemist cancer – or – Dr. Christina Sanchez molecular biologist cancer
And a number of other disease and conditions.
700 medical cannabis studies sorted by disease
Plus a drop in traffic fatalities.
And if other countries are any guide over all use will decline plus use by youth will go down. Counter intuitive eh? But that is what the available evidence shows. i.e. Holland and Portugal. I would expect the answer to that to show up in Colorado once the novelty wears off. About two years.
My take is that you have been stampeded on this issue by government. Just as the left has been bamboozled by "global warming". And just the same way. You have confused the ills of prohibition with the effects of the drugs. The left has been conned to mistake the PDO for CO2.
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. - H. L. Mencken
OTOH it is possible you think a well financed criminal element is essential to society. At least objectively that is your position. Because prohibition doesn't stop distribution. It only puts it in the hands of criminals. Prohibitions do that - as you well know.
BTW AFAIK escapism is an essential part of human nature. Now what should we do with military people who want to escape their PTSD? Shoot them? Or is it only civilians who should suffer?
Christians used to be into healing the sick and relieving suffering. The current batch not so much.

Core Christians beleive in penance and suffering for the sins of man.
So he is with State now? Given my extensive work with the Russian military in the past years I have friends and multiple contacts at the embassy, do you want me to have them check up on him? He must be bored right now given current directives. My son is with the US Embassy in Moscow.

Re: Latest drug addict loons.
"Penance"?! thought that was voluntary suffering one undertook willingly to make up for ones sins to better the soul...not imposed on you by the state for the "sin" of smoking pot. Thou shall not get high...obviously missed that one in Sunday school. Or more exactly thou shall not get high on anything other than state sanctioned intoxicants like alcohol. Not sure how being brutalized by jack-booted body armour wearing thugs qualifies as christian penance...especially considering that it seems to only be the poor pot smoking "sinners" who see the inside of a jail much.ladajo wrote:Core Christians beleive in penance and suffering for the sins of man.
Re: Latest drug addict loons.
What is the differnec between a jack booted thug that steps on your head verses a church sanctioned bully that steps on your soul with threats of purgatory?
The point here is that we do not raise our children well as a society to cope with failure or stress. We teach them to seek the easy way out. Drug use is part of that culture.
Everyone is a winner. If you don't feel like a winner then it is okay to medicate for it.
Bad shit and good shit happens in life. You have to deal with either.
