Dredging up ancient Bill Cosby allegations. Why now? Or could it be to take some pedophile heat off of Hollywood insiders? Perhaps it's a warning of the past vicious smear tactics (remember Herman Cain, Clarence Thomas?) as seems every time Democs get worried blacks are getting uppity and start to stray off the plantation (recently such as Mia Love elected congress woman Utah, Tim Scott elected Senator SC, Ben Carson possible candidate for president) Democan operatives get busy digging up or making up dirt. Imagine splitting off 50% of the black vote from Democans, why they might not win another election. So, remind the blacks what they have to lose.

Repubs though are well versed in smut wars, too. Bushy pol-operatives will be feeding the Democs dirt on every Repub that stands in good o'boy Jeb's way too. Old man Bush has a lot of NSA, CIA, FBI, XYZ favors to call in, and, what, with all email and cell phone calls recorded, cataloged, not even the Pope stands a chance (all it takes is allegations, or really good fabrications).

Blacks are only about 13% of the population ( and a much lower percentage of the electorate) black vote is heavily suppressed by selective disenfranchisement by among other things the WOD. The republicans don't lose elections because of lost black vote primarily it is the women's vote (and Hispanic) that is responsible for the democratic victories when they happen. Women are just more concerned with maintaining the welfare state (welfare, SS, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, etc.) then they are in fighting ISIS or whatever the perceived threat of the moment is. And they perceive the Dems as supporting those aforementioned programs (and women's rights issues like yes abortion rights) more than the republicans.

Yes Jeb would be the republican to beat if he decides to run...expect a Hillary vs Jeb slugfest. Again I would guess Hillary wins because she would pull a large percentage of the women's vote (& yes minority blacks/Hispanic); Jeb would own the white male vote.

Indications I get are that the Ds will make Prohibition a national issue in 2016. So far the only candidate even moderately well positioned on that issue is Rand Paul. And of course he has his father's coattails. Hillary has her problems in that regard, "There is too much money in it."

Of course Ds have been threatening this for a while with no follow through. OTOH it will be on the ballot in at least 8 states including California, Nevada, and Arkansas. And Florida will be trying again in an election year when the youth vote could make the difference.

Given the DC vote no Democrat will oppose ending Prohibition. None of the Black Republicans are very good on the issue.

Will 2016 be another 1932? Time will tell.

In a few years America will be majority minority. The Republicans are going to need some of those minorities to win elections. Jailing them is not a good way to win hearts and minds.

Some years ago the Virginia Republican Party had one of their best, and least-appreciated, Senate candidates ever, one Rev. Maurice Dawkins.

Dawkins was a black civil rights activist back in the day, but had come to realize a couple of things. While he was "liberal" regarding civil rights, as a minister, he found himself at odds with the Democrats on almost everything else. And, for some odd reason, he objected to the Democrats notion that they owned the black vote. He didn't much care for anyone thinking they owned him.

I watched fellow in awe as he wowed a state convention. I've heard a number of MLK speaches, and Dawkins could speachify King into the ground. I watched him get a convention center full of stodgy Republicans up on their feet, holding hands, singing "God Bless America," and I think he could have gotten them to sing "We Shall Overcome" if somebody had thought to pass out the lyrics.

He got essentially no financial support in what was seen as a hopeless Senate race against Chuck Robb. That was a shame, because the man was a quality candidate.
