Man aiding homeless person held by police

Post by MSimon »

He was dragged out of his car and handcuffed. So what was it that police insisted Mr. Snider had done? Give that homeless man drugs. Again, he didn’t. Snider only gave the man some money.

And some people wonder why popular sentiment is turning against drug prohibition.

I don't wonder why because it is not. You mix and misrepresent catagories of data to suit your purpose.
Your leaps of logic can be amusing at times.

Amateur propaganda at best.

Your argument by assertion is not persuasive, especially to me who actually read the piece.

He was treated badly precisely because it was assumed he was engaged in the drug trade.

I begin to think you and GIThruster could think more clearly if you did indulge occasionally in currently controlled substances--anything to disrupt your pathology.

According to this poll http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_ ... _marijuana 56% favor ending cannabis prohibition.

According to this poll http://www.gallup.com/poll/165539/first ... juana.aspx 58% favor ending cannabis prohibition.

As an indication the vote in Colorado http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado_Amendment_64 55.32%

Washington State http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Initiative_502 55.7%

I keep telling my Republican friends that the Democrats will use this trend to stage a come back. My Republican friends are not listening.

Historically prohibitions last about 50 years (alcohol prohibition was an aberration because people already had experience with alcohol). Nixon's War On Drugs speech 1971. 1971 + 50 = 2021. Time is about up.

The problem is really fundamental though. Police can't solve a medical problem. And anyone who believes they can is insane.

I think progressives are making a fundamental mistake. The mistake is that information and surveillance capability due to technology has reached a point that government has become the biggest threat. And this is not some imaginary future capability. So, the more laws and regulations there are the tighter the noose. This translates to political retribution against those not in power and who can challenge those in power. Blackmail though is the best way to use such surveillance as everyone has close relatives and close friends that can be leveraged by threat. Remember the Republicrat GM dealerships that were cancelled once Obamacrats took power? Or IRS used against the Tea Party? Christy looks like a contender, then all of a sudden the bridge scandal magically appears. Anybody wonder how Fox News got their dog collar... by police magically uncovering Fox's tapping phones (NSA tapping Fox tapping phones...?). Right, Fox is being blackmailed with threat of jail. Freedom is not possible in a police state, and progressives have given the laws and regulations to do it "legally," and technology has provided the means.

Hillary is said to have a list of enemies. Sounds like Nixon.

And you guys worry about the druggies, what a laugh. Fund that nice big police force to take care of those dangerous druggies!

It stinks to high heaven.

By the way, I don't even drink alcohol and prescriptions cost less than $100/year total. My paranoia comes from seeing the deployment of technology and seeing the will to use it demonstrated.
Counting the days to commercial fusion. It is not that long now.

What exactly is your point - that the country iis not ready for the legalization of all drugs? Well I agree. That will come after cannabis legalization and people start questioning the efficacy of the rest of the drug war. Be patient. It will take a while. It is coming.

From 2005: The Police Chief - Drug Legalization: Why It Wouldn't Work in the United States - By Edmund Hartnett, Deputy Chief and Executive Officer, Narcotics Division, New York City Police Department, New York

Fortunately the DEA is panicked: http://classicalvalues.com/2014/01/cann ... dea-agent/

And these former narcotics officers (and other officers) think all drugs should be legalized: Law Enforcement Against Prohibition They are very persuasive. What they are saying is shaking the Drug War establishment to its roots. Former Police Captain Peter Christ talks about legalizing ALL drugs at the St Albans Rotary Club.

I will repeat. Anyone who thinks police can solve a medical problem is insane. One relevant example: they couldn't cure alcoholism when given the opportunity. Eventually people will see the Drug War as just as insane as The Alcohol War.

ladajo,

You inspired me to post this: http://classicalvalues.com/2014/01/pete ... all-drugs/

Peter asks (roughly): "Do you believe a drug free America is possible" - he got the same answer he always does. Nobody in the audience believes that. Then he asks, "Who is going to run the marketplace?" Gangsters, thugs and terrorists? Or businessmen? I do agree with you that it is more profitable for the prison industries, law enforcement, and a host of others if gangsters, thugs and terrorists run the market place. But for the rest of us those are all dead weight losses.

Which may explain why The morality police are fighting for their very livelihood!. It is getting more difficult every day to find people who believe in a drug free America. The last cohort still holding those ideas are older Republicans. When they are gone (or greatly reduced by the grim reaper) the whole Drug War will be over. It is just a matter of time. Why is that? Information eventually overcomes propaganda.

You can watch the movie Refer Madness if you want to see what used to work. It is today a joke. It used to be VERY SERIOUS. The rest of prohibition will be going the same way.

So true. Fighting against the Drug War is my way of going after the police state.

You will note that one of our major proponents of Drug Prohibition here earns his living (still) by servicing police eqpt. The Drug War has ceased to be a social program and has turned into a racket. Just ask Ollie North what kind of "kilos" he was transporting on those CIA flights. Probably rice and beans. Air transported rice and beans. Very profitable. And you have to ask yourself - why wasn't Ollie prosecuted? If "fighting drugs" is so important? So what is important? The profits from fighting drugs. Banks get a 30% cut for laundering drug money. Compare that with what they charge to service your account.

Simon, how many times are you going to roll out that worn out video?

You point to the same guy over and over like he is thousands of cops across the nation.

I can find you pretty much any flavor of "Pro-whatever" video you would like.

I can also find you plenty of cops who went off the deep end on some pretty crazy stuff. An appeal to authority does not make them right.

I (three in row...) have also said many times that I think there are issues with what we as a nation are doing. Stress the word nation.
Make drugs available at will for everyone is an error no matter how you look at it. It would be like putting slow poison free icecream out for kids at every street corner.
My own opinion is such that we have go so far left and liberal on law and punishment that to commit a crime (which by definition is injury to the nation or others) for the most part holds low risk. Think of the school yard bully taking candy and lunch money. He will not stop until someone hammers him. Low Risk. The same as the idiots that go and shoot up folks they believe are unarmed. Low Risk. I say death penalty for dealers and traffickers, and crush the shit out of folks who are high and commit a crime. Personal accountability. That is what this nation was founded on, and we seem to have lost the idea, or at least missplaced it.

"Not my fault, I was high/drunk/abused as a child...what ever..." All bullshit. "Everybody is a winner", that is the sum total national product of the 60/70's drug generation and look where it is taking us. Right down the toilet of malaise and indifference to challenge.

If you agree that the nation is not ready for drug legalization, then stop misrepresenting your cherrypicked pot snippets to represent opinions for all drugs and the drug war.

Here is some one different:

How Drug Prohibition corrupts police: Liberty: Randie Long Talks About Drug War Corruption

So why do I roll out Peter Christ so much? Because he is effective. Do I expect to change your mind? Hell no. But there are others out there and I am changing their minds. You are losing ground and I am gaining. What do I think will be required to change policy?

"A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents die and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it." - Max Planck

The grim reaper will be changing policy as long as I keep working my function as educator. I was quite effective as a Polywell educator. I also have been very effective as an anti-prohibition educator. As Peter Christ says: it is not about the drugs, it is about the gang finance and police corruption program. I am definitely against the gangs and other Prohibition profiteers. You objectively are in favor of them. Nothing I can do to stop you. Nor would I do anything to stop you. I just present an opposing view and let people make up their minds. So far my view has been more effective than yours.

Why? In America we have a tradition of liberty. You don't like that. My job is to put you in the minority. I am doing my job better than you do yours. But keep trying. What doesn't kill me makes me stronger. And in fact it is worse than that. Striking me down WILL make me stronger. Obi Wan has taught me well.

You fight drugs. I fight a police state. Think about who will prevail in that competition. You are weakened by being on my side in most aspects of the fight against the police state. I am strengthened by unity of purpose. I have no "I'm against the police state except for...." I intend to use that fight to weaken the left. And the right.

Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof. - It is a very old tradition. I claim it as mine.

You misunderstand my purpose. I am getting the nation ready. Pot legalization is only a first step. I want to destroy the whole prohibition infrastructure and in addition make cannabis as legal as cabbage. Regulation is only a first step.

You see I'm a rather peculiar fellow. I prefer small government. There are more than a few of us with the disease. And despite your desires it is catching.

In addition prohibition is turning the left against government. The mass of the right is already there (mostly). It is my aim to make the country libertarian - again. Left and right. Now if we can put our boots on the necks of the politicians.... I intend to see it happen. I will find a way or make one.
