Is It Bad To Be Warm

Now for some people, climate probably doesn't matter. In most of the habited parts of California for instance, they don't really have winter. When I went to a convention in San Diego a couple of years ago in February my coworkers and I walked around in short sleeved shirts while people who lived there were complaining about how cold it was and wearing parkas. Here in the Northeast, things are different. Realistically, I think that everyone who grows up in the northeast hates weather. We know that the weather is trying to kill us every year and it's primary weapon is cold. I think that deep down we want it to be warmer. It saves us energy in a region that lives on the edge. Especially in New England where the fall back fuel is wood and we've exhausted that resource once already. Look at photographs of New England towns in the early 20th century. So we don't have much problem with it being warm and we know how to make compromises with the ocean as required. Been there, done that. We also sort of have deep connections to the little ice age and it's consequences:

We've lived through the cold before.
So people on both sides of the Atlantic don't much have a problem with global warming. We know that we'll adapt and persevere if the powers that be let us:

So to us it looks like the benefits of a warmer world out weigh the disadvantages and we really don't like giving out liberties because of a snake oil selling Southerner and cabal of proven liars.

Ever seen someone burned at the stake?

You could ask Giordano Bruno. They nailed his tongue to the roof of his mouth before they burned him.

The Inquisition burned him for heliocentrism: the belief that the Earth circles the Sun.

They still haven't apologized, like they did for Galileo.

Luckily, these days, they get theirs back: Mann is in discovery in his lawsuit. Most observers expect the defendants to try to make a deal and Mann to refuse and insist on full public disclosure at minimum, potentially along with lost salary and legal costs for the five investigations that found him innocence besieged.

Somebody should sue the Catholics on behalf of Bruno.
