Soon the Strategy will be implemented. And real soon now - if legalization does not intervene first - the drug war will be won.http://www.gao.gov/assets/660/653354.pdf
The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and federal agencies have not made progress toward achieving most of the goals articulated in the 2010 National Drug Control Strategy (the Strategy), but are reported to be on track to implement most Strategy action items intended to support these goals.
The 100 year anniversary (Dec 1914 - Dec 2014) will be upon us before you know it. And opiates have the same prevalence they did before 1914. About 1.3% of the population are users. But we do get a nice Black Market and the attendant crime gangs for our troubles. Not to mention supporting our enemies in North Korea and Afghanistan. Excellent.
And pot prohibition (since 1937)? A year ago http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_ ... _marijuana said support for legalization was at 56%. That poll seemed to be an outlier. A poll this year http://big.assets.huffingtonpost.com/to ... 172013.pdf says the support is at 57%.
You can win a LOT of elections with 57% of the vote.
What seems to be turning the tide on pot? Endocannabinoids. Bleeding heart Americans do not seem to be willing to make war on sick people to get at the dopers.
