Illegal drug use ruins lives and kills. And uncontrolled, can become an epidemic that disrupts society. Controlled substances are controlled with good reason.
Unlike guns, where it takes a person to choose to use it as a tool to kill, illegal drugs, once introduced to a person have a significant probability to induce an internal and externally destructive spiral, which phyically disrupts the rational thinking process that produces value for self and others. This use physically encourages more use, and in turn accellerates the death spiral. Picking up a gun is not a self lubricating slippery slope. Using illegal drugs is.
You say "Illegal drug use ruins lives and kills." Alcohol does that too by 10X. We should ban it.
My posts are not for your benefit. I post them to inform the lurkers.
And note - the tide has turned against you. Significantly in the case of medical cannabis. When it becomes a national issue the Right will go down in flames over it. I see a 1932 in your future.
The slippery slope is Prohibition. Notice the antics of Bloomberg lately? And BTW where is the Constitutional Amendment for the Federal Drug Ban my Constitutionalists friend?
We haven't given up using opiates and cocaine medicinally despite the fact of a significant number of recreational users. Your position is incoherent. People notice these things. At least those between 15 and 25. And they have been noticing for 40+ years. Prohibitions typically last for about 50 years. Your time is about up.
BTW please explain how the nation survived when all these medicines were over the counter until 1914 and 1937? Until outlawed by the Progressives.
I have noticed on the doper boards an explosion of references to endocannabinoids. You have no counter for that information. Do you have any idea how out of touch that makes you look?

I have no interest in doing the impossible - converting you to reason - I'm into presenting my evidence to the new generations who will decide the issue. The tide has swung in my favor. Your best option to maintain political viability for the rest of your program is to give up. However you insist on a fight. You will lose everything until the reality of economics catches up with your opposition just as the reality of body chemistry is catching up with you.
You are a military man. You should know that if you find yourself in a position you can't hold you retreat to a stronger position you can hold. This you find yourself unable to do. You know the end result.
And finally for your amusement:
Cannabinoids, like those found in marijuana, occur naturally in human breast milk
And it turns out, based on the findings of several major scientific studies, that human breast milk naturally contains many of the same cannabinoids found in marijuana,
which are actually extremely vital for proper human development.
And:
If it were not for these cannabinoids in breast milk, newborn children would not know how to eat, nor would they necessarily have the desire to eat, which could result in severe malnourishment and even death. Believe it or not, the process is similar to how adult individuals who smoke pot get the "munchies," as newborn children who are breastfed naturally receive doses of cannabinoids that trigger hunger and promote growth and development.

I have a friend who is losing her parents because they have lost their appetite. She desperately wishes that cannabis was legal so she could enjoy a few more years with her parents. How do you think she feels about you and your prohibition program? Now multiply that by all the diseases and maladies where cannabis is helpful. And then do a count. You don't have the votes.
Do you see why I say:
Medical Marijuana prohibition is a crime against humanity and a violation of the religious precept - heal the sick.
