My friend Diogenes alerted me to an American Thinker article on Beppe Grillo.

You're welcome. It ought to scare the sh** out of people. For some reason we seemed to be preoccupied with lesser things.

My Italian is poor, and I don't know much about Italian politics. Grillo may be an idiot. He may be a fascist. But following the references in the American Thinker article, and reading some of his blog as well as the movement manifesto (all with support of Google Translate), I'm mainly convinced of one thing: that there's far more of an agenda behind the American Thinker article than meets the eye.

Missing the point of the article. Grillo is but an example of the point. Fascism is once again rising in Europe. (Here too.) Grillo is a symptom of the problem, not the cause. (Same with Obama)

What would the agenda of the article be? "Hey, we need to watch out for Fascism? "

D@mn those diabolical bastards for trying to make us aware of this!

Nonsense!
Italy has always had a chaotic (to put it mildly) government. Every time the right wingers in some European country get a few seats more or (gulp) have a prime minister of president, the socialists freak out and produce them as the return of Hitler and fascism/national socialism in Europe.
Then nothing happens and things go on as usual (same old shit) and the next election it is all back to the same left or left conservative old.

Not missing the point. Just pointing out that several claims in the article are unsupported by the reference links given. I guess the author just expected readers not to go through the effort of following links and translating Italian. I'm not sure what to make of that, but it certainly raises some doubts about the author's integrity and intentions.

So "Fascism is once again rising in Europe"? Maybe. But the article is very weak support for that assertion.

People should stop reading opinion pieces in blogs and taking them as fact...

For some reason we seemed to be preoccupied with lesser things.
The "lesser things" do have their importance. For instance one of those lesser things is responsible for the partial nationalization of all our local police forces. What if some one with ill intent used those forces for things other than those they were originally purposed for?

You worry about strategy. That is good. I worry about tactics as they relate to strategy.

It is good strategy to deprive our enemies of weapons. Or hadn't you noticed their move to do the same to us?

I looked at some of the cites. Yes, this writer misrepresents here and there. Some are fairly big leaps. But all that said, this guy Grillo is a freaking nutjob. Watch the vaccines video. He is a Cult of Personality trying to happen. And he is off his rocker. If you can understand the Italian, it is quickly clear he is a nutcase. Unfortunately, Italians love a good theater drama. And he is giving them one, conspiracies and all. If someone doesn't whack him first, he will gain more electoral ground. He has all the right moves.

Dont forget that Mussolinis granddoughter was also a politician and so was a porn star of sorts (forget what her name was).
Italian politics has always been a bunch of idiots weirdos and extremists. Most of their governments break up after a year too...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilona_Staller -- Ilona Staller - Cicciolina - If her Year of birth is correct she is now about 61.

Nice picture at the wiki of her nearly falling out of her dress.

Now I remember why I liked her politically - from the wiki:

In 1985, she switched to the Partito Radicale, campaigning on a libertarian platform against nuclear energy and NATO membership, and for human rights. She was elected to the Italian parliament in 1987, with approximately 20,000 votes.

===

However, if you follow her positions over the years she seems to have no firm positions.

Yeah, I did not really want to remember her, but thanks anyway. Anyway, you hopefully get my point. Italian politicians have always been - let me see how to put that nicely- fringe. ;)

Here is her official www site. In Italian. Most of you going there will be unable to claim it was for the articles:
