How Did We Survive Repeal?

Of alcohol prohibition.
Alcohol is a drug known to make people stupid (drink and drive). Lose motor skills.
And is statistically associated with violence.

Almost four in 10 violent crimes involve alcohol, according to the crime victim, as do four in 10 fatal motor vehicle accidents. And about four in 10 criminal offenders report that they were using alcohol at the time of their offense. Bureau of Justice Statistics, US Department of Justice, 1998.
OTOH the nation survived and prospered with legal pot (and legal alcohol and legal opiates) from the founding

There are people who would like to switch alcohol drinkers to pot why?

New Research Questions Marijuana’s Impact in Lowering IQ

I liked this comment from the above link:
“The Original study was a Red Herring, GIGO! Any pre-teen child who was a daily user of marijuana or any other substance had severe social issues, including zero parental guidance and supervision. There were NO controls in that "study." They had no idea what other substances they were using over the years or what activities these people were engaging in. To apply the "Findings" to marijuana use was, at best, specious. BTW, who funded the NZ "Study"?”

There have been numerous studies of this order over the years. They normally get withdrawn or ignored when better research is done. Look up Gabriel Nahas if you want to find out about killer weed.
======
Prohibitionists love to hang their hats on these studies. I encourage it. Because when the studies get disproven or are found to be inadequate it further undermines Prohibition. Nahas did prohibitionists no favor by asphyxiating monkeys.
======
Now what do you think is going to happen when there are calls to raise the Federal budget if it is poverty and not pot which does the damage. "Poverty lowers IQ" will be the headline. I will laugh.

Pot smoking is tied to PTSD. I liked this:

Findings provide support for an association between PTSD symptoms and IQ, particularly verbal IQ. Two possible reasons for this relationship are that higher levels of Verbal IQ may serve as a premorbid protective factor against the development of re-experiencing symptoms, or performance on post-trauma Verbal IQ measures may be negatively impacted by expression of PTSD symptoms. Longitudinal studies are needed to clarify which of these two possibilities explains the association.
So it may be PTSD that is lowering IQ and the pot use is a symptom of the PTSD.
