"TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran has deployed a Russian-made submarine after it was overhauled earlier this year.
State TV says Taregh-1 joined the fleet in the southern port of Bandar Abbas. It's one of three Russian Kilo class submarines that Iran obtained in early 1990s.

Tehran has tried to build a self-sufficient military program since 1992 and has several smaller, Iranian-built submarines. In May, it had to repair another Russian-made sub."

Russia has a good customer there for a used nuclear sub that could slip into the Gulf of Mexico. Of course, if Iran could get their polywell up and running, build their own sub....

Oh my, a legacy Kilo gets underway again...

Of course it is really unfortunate that they really have no idea what they are doing with the few boats they have...odds are in a fight they will not get to sea at all, or if they do, they will never know what killed them.

Barring some minelaying, or a lucky circumstance shot, I do not at this time forsee Iranian submarines to be a large consuming issue for any real fight. They will be something to cross of the list early on IMO.

I knew a guy who worked for Bell Helicopter in Iran pre-revolution. He said one day at the airport there was a plane crash. Americans jumped up to man the crash/rescue vehicles. He said the Iranians just sat around saying "It is the will of Allah. "

Competence is not my first thought regarding Iran. It will be "the will of Allah" when their boats sink too.
