Government is a form of organized crime. But the alternative is disorganized crime.

In many ways I agree with Randall G. Holcombe's view that government is Unnecessary but Inevitable.

I think that there are some forms of self organization that naturally happen in any larger group of people. If you take the government away, other hirarchies will form and leaderships will emerge on their own. Then the path is set for a society to go through all the forms of government that we have seen historically for humans until they once again end up right where we are now.
I hate the government. I hate politicians with a passion. I think most of them are scum. The problem is that we (humans) have tried pretty much everything else and inbetween and as much as I dislike our governments (EU, Austrian, US, all the same to me), I have yet to see a viable alternative (other than an empire with me in the position of the glorious leader, but that is a different story ;))

Randall G. Holcombe sounds like a "Rational Anarchist". As described by a character in "the Moon is a Harsh Mistress" by Heinlein, Government is inevitably a source of harm, but in some form unavoidable. It is therefor rational to support whichever government does the least harm.

A Rational Anarchist and a Libertarian would agree that a valid role of government is making sure someone else doesn't move in as a tyrant.

Yes. That is excellent. I blogged it a while back.
