It also appears to be useful in CURING other types of cancer including breast cancer.

Taken together, our data show that concentrations of
THC comparable with those detected in the serum of patients after THC
administration accelerate proliferation of cancer cells instead

At the same time, other studies do seem to confirm that it can inhibit tumor progression. It seems plausible, then, that it may be useful in some specific treatments, but to say "If you've lost a loved one to cancer, they have died needlessly" seems cruel and horribly exaggerated on what I've read so far.

Except in vivo epidemiology studies show something else. Why is that?

BTW have you watched the videos? Or is the above the best you can do? Watch the 10 minute video and perform some of the searches suggested. Actual results do not confirm the petri dish experiments.

You might also like this:

From your link:
Cannabinoids, the active components of marijuana and their endogenous counterparts were reported as useful analgetic agents to accompany primary cancer treatment by preventing nausea, vomiting, and pain and by stimulating appetite. Moreover, they have been shown to inhibit cell growth and to induce apoptosis in tumor cells.
From what I gather from reports from med pot states different strains are useful for different conditions.

Did the researchers take that into consideration? I see no evidence of same. And they used one compound. All the reports say that the results are determined by a synergy of the different compounds.

Nice try though.

That link was the very first result that came up from performing one of the suggested searches!

Anyway, didn't mean to post without the followup comment. Yes, I think there may be something to this. But this video seems like something not far from a Andrea Rossi production.

Yes. It is over the top. But what can you expect from people whose medicines are illegal and unstudied due to Drug Prohibition?

BTW I blogged the diabetes connection some years back. It was well received among a group of Doctors.

This one shows the connection between diabetes and MS:

Blood pressure:

There are many more conditions for which pot is helpful:

PTSD is a biggie.

http://powerandcontrol.blogspot.com/200 ... icine.html

The thing is CB1 and CB2 receptors are all over the body. Why wouldn't it be useful to treat many different conditions?

Drugs are great if used as MEDICINE. ( and by that, I don't mean as the cause and cure for a self inflicted disease. )

This video is nonsense. First there is no reasonable diagnosis of cancer presented for these lesions- that would require a biopsy. Appearance and history may suggest a suspicion, but it would have to be confirmed to validate any course of the disease. This is merely a supposition. Secondly - "pulling the cancer to the surface" is a foolish statement. Basal cell and squamous call skin cancer generally are already on the surface (the epidermis), it spreads superficially and can progress to deeper skin layers ( mostly squamous cell cancer). If it looked worse after a few weeks it was due to progression of the cancer, and/ or irritation or reaction to the applied substance. That the lesions eventually cleared up implies that they were not cancer, merely an irritation such as impetigo, etc. or the cancerous lesions regressed, possibly spontaneously.
This video implies nothing. If there are enough other sources of empiric claims from others and you do not have a high suspicion that the 'witnesses' having a separate agenda, such claims may merit further study, but this video by itself is completely meaningless.

If this is non-sense why doesn't our government allow research on the issue? Why does the DEA strangle all research proposals that might show usefulness?

And Dan. The guy was diagnosed as having cancer and was prescribed the usual medicine for it. Watch the video again and see if you can gather what is actually being said.
Despite these favorable preclinical findings, US government officials dismissed the study (which was eventually published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute in 1975), and refused to fund any follow-up research until conducting a similar –- though secret –- clinical trial in the mid-1990s. That study, conducted by the US National Toxicology Program to the tune of $2 million concluded that mice and rats administered high doses of THC over long periods experienced greater protection against malignant tumors than untreated controls.

From the avobe link:
“Cannabinoids possess … anticancer activity [and may] possibly represent a new class of anti-cancer drugs that retard cancer growth, inhibit angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels) and the metastatic spreading of cancer cells." So concludes a comprehensive review published in the October 2005 issue of the scientific journal Mini-Reviews in Medicinal Chemistry.

Not familiar with the emerging body of research touting cannabis' ability to stave the spread of certain types of cancers? You're not alone.

For over 30 years, US politicians and bureaucrats have systematically turned a blind eye to scientific research indicating that marijuana may play a role in cancer prevention -- a finding that was first documented in 1974. That year, a research team at the Medical College of Virginia (acting at the behest of the federal government) discovered that cannabis inhibited malignant tumor cell growth in culture and in mice. According to the study's results, reported nationally in an Aug. 18, 1974, Washington Post newspaper feature, administration of marijuana's primary cannabinoid THC, "slowed the growth of lung cancers, breast cancers and a virus-induced leukemia in laboratory mice, and prolonged their lives by as much as 36 percent."
Evidently you lack even a passing acquaintance with the literature. Pity.

While the investigators’ failure to demonstrate a positive association between cannabis use and cancer may seem surprising to some, the bottom line is that scientists overseas have been studying pot’s potential anti-cancer properties for nearly a decade. Most recently, investigators at Italy's Instuto di Chemica Biomolecolare reported in the May issue of the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics that compounds in marijuana inhibit cancer cell growth in animals and in culture on a wide range of tumor cell lines, including human breast carcinoma cells, human prostate carcinoma cells, and human colectoral carcinoma cells.

Previous studies by European researchers have shown that cannabis’ constituents can reduce the size and halt the spread of glioma (brain tumor) cells in animals and humans in a dose dependent manner. Separate preclinical studies have also shown marijuana to inhibit cancer cell growth and selectively trigger malignant cell death in skin cancer cells, leukemic cells, and lung cancer cells, among other cancerous cell lines.

Links at the above site. More:
Shockingly, federal officials have steadfastly refused to fund any follow up research on the subject in the following decades, and today continue to oppose any use of cannabis – even for medical purposes in states that have authorized its use. What’s the Fed’s rational for maintaining such a foolish and misguided policy? Most likely, they have "no comment."
Well the country is going broke. People who are desperate will be looking for cheap alternatives when they can't afford the products of the medical cartel and their agents in the DEA and FDA allow.

The Drug War will be ending soon. And when it does and people start learning what has been done they will howl in outrage that their loved ones were denied medicine that might have saved their lives.

I wrote an article about a year ago on how marijuana helps those suffering from diabetes and more recently how it helps those suffering from multiple sclerosis. It turns out there is a connection.

That was published on the 'net in Dec of 2006. Going on 5 years now.
