I seem to remember MSIMON talking a bit about something like this. If I set something up in my basement or attic that can power my house without wires with energy from the high-power lines that run nearby, would I get sued by the power company? How could they tell what I was doing?

I wonder if this isn’t a bit like the internet and music. A way will be found to charge people and allow them legal access (iTunes) at a marketable price.

Thing is, people living near power line corridors have complained for years about getting headaches, general malaise, and other diseases. Also, some people who live near power generating wind turbine farms report the same thing.

I don't think the correlation has been positively proven, IIRC there are studies pro and con. Maybe it's like cell phones... despite the urban legend, they don't seem to give most people brain cancer. Still, I'd like to know more about the long term effects of being exposed to higher than normal amounts of electrons before feeling entirely safe with these things.

Reminds me of a cartoon dating from the early 20th century that I saw on a website once. The site was highlighting futurist ideas of past eras. Everything in the cartoon was about wireless stuff - most of it was radio-this and radio-that, but there were also tesla towers transmitting power to everything.

Yes, rj40 - the power company will notice the loss, and track down the culprit.

Of course, if you mounted the device in a car, so that you powered an electric motor from the EM, there wouldn't be a single place to track you to.

I'm just sayin'.
