Progressives to taxpayers: Stick um up!!!

I've always been told that the law was the law, like it or not. Progressives seem to think that the law is the law only when they can confiscate more wealth from people:

We have too many lawyers. The problem with too many lawyers is that the law, instead of being a realtively static and understandable set of rules, instead becomes a churning froth of precedents, good intentions, and opaque verbiage that requires (of all things) a lawyer to interpret for the layman.

It may be time to radically simplify things... but would the lawyers ever allow simplification of the legal system to a point where someone who didn't go to law school could easily understand it? Look at the mess that the tax code has become - it provides a lot of employment for accountants and lawyers. Maybe it wouldn't be possible - but something's gotta give...
