The Saudis have been quiet allies of Israel for at least 5 years. And that is just what I know from the news. Obviously the "chats" started well before that.

Just Imagine if the Nuclear Carrier George Bush pulled up into the Gulf and delivered a fully functioning Polywell to the Iranians in a few years.

The President gets on the news and announces something to the effect:

"Here, stop playing with Uranium and Plutonium, you now have peaceful nuclear energy without bomb making capacity. Provided you sign the NPT and allow the UN to inspect it from time to time. Done."

Even if the reactor costs some 200 million plus dollars, it would still be a cheap price for peace compared to a local conflict with nuclear weapons being bandied about.

I kind of think that was his point. At that point in time, there could be NO excuse left, no mambee-pambeeing about "peaceful power systems". At that point, casus belli all over the ground!

At that point it is far too late. The Iranians are on the verge of having a nuclear weapon now. The uranium gun bomb design is easily within their capability, it is the plutonium implosion device that is difficult.

I simply cannot comprehend how others cannot see the danger. The Iranian leadership is fanatically religious and wanting to bring back the 12 imam, a sort of "St. Peter sounding the last trumpet" apocalypse.

Are you freakin kidding me? We are gonna let a madman like Amadinnerjacket get his hands on a nuclear weapon? The ONLY thing he's going to do with it is attack Israel, which will then Nuke the F*ck out of Iran, and then the whole world will be in a massive war!

It will very likely not only bring on the return of the 12th Imam, but the Second coming of Christ, the Descent of Shiva, and the loosing of Fenrir Wolf!

To top it all off, we couldn't have found a more unqualified person on the planet to be in charge of this country when all of this is coming to a boil. I dare say the Precedent will order our air force to shoot down the Israelis if they try to STOP the Iranians. (Thank you Jimmy Carter.)

This kind of chain of convergence of astonishing events almost makes a person willing to believe in prophecy.

We will have Polywells ready for delivery in 8 years (assuming all goes well) and the war will start in 2 years, maybe less.

There are no excuses left now. Iran wants nukes and the immunity from consequences that goes with them. Its not an irrational desire per se.

In part. The Iranian regime is highly factionalized. Calling it a "government" is a bit grandiose. Its more like the various caporegimes under La Cosa Nostra. So the question is which capos control the nukes once obtained? Not all of them are Twelver millenarians.

Typically the expectation would be for Israel to preempt, but we've been waiting for that for over three years now, time is running VERY short for Israel to move first, and Israel has had multiple slipups in the recent past of a sort it has never had before - the Keystone Kops Dubai assassination, the intelligence/PR disaster of handling the flotilla, and Operation Cast Lead.

One of my favorite stories takes three books to culminate in the lesson that sometimes the promise (threat?) is more effective than the act.

Rather than SAILING in today, maybe he should PROMISE to sail in with a useful system in 10 years. Same casus belli.

I would not be greatly surprised if that happens. The Regime would surely like to give such an order. I also expect at least some of our armed forces to refuse that order.

It would help to know if their President was legitimate or not. It is precisely because he has been conferred a false cloak of legitimacy that makes him so dangerous.
