Obviosly, once you take away peoples pain meds, they will be more likely to suicide with a gun, which will lead to an increase in the firearms homicide rate, which will help justify more gun control laws, hence more innocent people put in prison, more prisons built, more cops and guards hired. Added benefit will be reductions in social security and medicaid/medicare recipients and attendant liability, so this is a win win win for the government.

Besides, narcotics are cheaper than newly patented engineered pain meds that don't work as well.

Just some food for thought:
In Austria, we have very strict gun laws. People like hunters are allowed to have rifles. People like security guards, taxi drivers and those that transport money, are allowed handguns. But they have strict regulations, tests, all sorts of obligations, etc. Generally, a normal person can not buy a handgun here.
But, we have a much lower rate of crimes involving guns, or suicides involving guns. I wonder why...

It's times like this when you say stuff like this that really pisses me off. You draw the wrong conclusions from the data that you've got available, and you promulgate it.

You have touched on an area that people simply are not allowed to talk about, and I'd rather not talk about it myself. However, I will throw you a clue bone.

Can you spell "Homogeneity"?

I read once where the Brits claimed that the 1 tenth as frequent murder rate with guns (per capita) compared to America was because they had only 1 tenth as many guns (per capita). Then I supposed that Britain was a land of multi-amputees because they had only 1 tenth the murder rate (per capita) with hands and feet as well. So obviously they had only 1 tenth as many hands and feet per capita.

Or maybe it is just that the UK is STILL a very homogeneous culture by comparison to America.

When Alberta CA (IIRC) banned hand guns, the suicide rate with handguns went down. The suicide rate did not change detectable, but more innocent bystanders (bydrivers?) were killed or injured when folks thru themselves off highway overpasses to end it all. The law of un-intended consequences!

Japan has a ban on guns. They have a very low crime rate, one of the lowest in the world, IIRC. Britain has a ban on guns, and their crime rate is through the roof. It's culture, not inanimate blocks of steel and plastic/wood. You could predict the U.S.'s rate by comparing with the nation that has the most similar culture--Britain, not Japan.
