I read about this in a Jerry Pournelle piece a long time ago. China owes the US more than they could ever pay for this. If I were China I would do everything I could to have a Nixon or Reagan in office and everthing i could to keep a Carter or Obama out.

In New Zealand, Nixon would have been punched in the nose aftering gesturing like that...
