Is there any depth to which they will not sink:

I mean give me a break. Obama gives one of his cult of personality totaltarian rants as the TOTUS feeds him from his puppetmasters and Newsweek feels compelled to send their technology editor out there to puppet the "words of wisdom" from Glorious leader. What is this, North Korea:

From the Newspeak article:
"information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation."
i.e. there are things he would rather you didn't know.

So what is the deal with singling out Apple and not the comms infrastructure (fiber optic backbone)? He did not get a big enough bribe. IMO.

But here is the crux of the matter:
Meanwhile, in the midst of all this, Glenn Beck has become an influential television commentator, and Sarah Palin is a credible candidate for president in 2012. You think this is a coincidence?

No way. What's happening is this: we are being so overwhelmed by the noise and junk zooming past us that we're becoming immune to it. We've become a nation of Internet-powered imbeciles, with an ever-lower threshold for inanity.

Beck and Palin are the inevitable outcome of that devolution. They are what we deserve. They are, in fact, what we've created.
We are no longer listening to our betters.
