Wouldn't it be funny if some surfer dude punched all the other physicists in the G.U.T. ?
Ladies and Gentlemen, Garett Lisi ...

I have not understood anything of what he said. A theory of unification would be quite awesome though.
8 dimensions is not that many either, compared to the - how many was that again?- 12?- of String Theory.
Besides, what I always disliked about string theory was that it can not be proven or disproven. Therefore it is a philosophy and not science

I liked Lisis reaction at the mentioning of string theory, priceless.

I have some notion of what he is talking about. I've done a lot of vector math in 3 dimensions for computer gaming, etc, and i'm pretty sure the methodology is exactly the same for rotating an object in more than three dimensions.
He starts off with previously known particles, and organizes them into a pattern, starting with the earliest coherent theory to explain them. He then subsequently enlarges the pattern based on later discoveries, using the same set of rules that he used to organize the original pattern. He notices that there are holes in positions which need to be filled in order to be consistent with the pattern. Positions which represent particles that have not been discovered.
In any case, I think that eventually he is rotating these patterns in 8 dimensions, then projecting them onto a two dimensional surface.
I would be very interested to hear the opinions of our professional physicists regarding his conceptualization of the particle zoo.

Well, I understood all that you were saying right now. I just did not get all that he was saying due to how fast he spoke at times.
I am pretty sure I missed some of the more important details of this because of that.
